He doesn't have sync at all. The non sync SE models have that basic monochrome trip computer display, and the base S is even more basic without the trip computer functions, just a trip odometer and the main vehicle odometer.

All vehicles with sync in 2012 come with at least the 4.2" lcd in the instrument panel, and either the 4.2" lcd in the MyFord system, or the 8" touch screen in MFT.

It appears that mine (automatic/DCT) kicks into top gear somewhere between 40-45mph. Mine is a newer 2012 Focus, which wasn't subject to the recall like the earlier ones were because of the transmission acting sluggish after start-up or at slower speeds. I'm told the newer ones kick into top gear at a higher speed than the earlier ones. I'm getting an average of around 43 mpg with mostly flat roads and speeds ranging from 40-55, depending on traffic. I still haven't determined what speed is the sweet spot. So far on various threads, graphs and other sites, I've heard/seen 40, 45, 50, 55, 57 & 60 mph. Any input from others is always appreciated. Thanks.

Wow you guys are mileage champs.

In my everyday commute with the 5sp I average between 28~29mpg every time with 30mpg if I baby it. About 50/50 city and highway with several hills, lights and stop signs. On shorter highway trips I usually get around 34mpg. From Philly to NJ Beaches going 70+ its usually 33~34mpg. Crack 65mph and the mpg drops quite a bit.

But the longer the trip the better though. I recently went from Philly to DC which is a little under 240 miles round trip. All Highway with a little city, averaging 65mph, and I got exactly 40mpg on the nose. And I only used about a half a tank of gas.

My car was built 4/23/12 and is an early Job 2 build but post the date of the field service action (not recall as you called it). My car will and has always shifted into 6th gear at 35-36 mph with light throttle even without resorting to select shift. It seems like they broke the programming on the even later builds/ software by emulating the 6F35 that will not shift into 6th automatically or manually until at least 41 mph. Which is terrible for city fuel economy when the limit is only 35 mph.

Car got 42.1 mpg at around 65 mph even going back up the hills from Cincinnati back to Michigan. Some of the time the limits dropped to 55-60, car said 41.4 mpg however.

Yes anecdotal accounts on this forum are that the "later" 12B37 update did change the 6th gear shift point and the "earlier" 12B37 did not.

It only brings down mileage during the time one spends between 35mph and 40-ish mph. My observation is that the 4th and 5th shift points did not change. And you can counteract that by manually shifting into 6th in Sport mode (which it allows you to do). Kind of a PITA though.
