Yes it keeps going up and down on its own. It'll go all the way to red and I get the signal and 10 seconds later it goes down again. Today while I was driving it was all the way down to C
And no sir, no smell, I was thinking it was the sensor too, but I'm taking it this Friday, so 4 more days to deal with it.

The message you're receiving should be logging a DTC that the dealer tech will be able to use to diagnose the problem. Until then, I'd drive it as little as possible until you're sure that it isn't an actual overheat condition.

So stayed at the dealership today for 8 hours and it's finally fixed... comment from them was " Found degas bottle cap off allowing coolant to boil out of degas bottle, Topped off coolant, Installed cap, rd test pass"
Apparently they said whoever changed my oil had let the cap all loose therefore the problem. Hopefully I didn't do much damage to the engine because I was driving it for a week.
