Disappointing that Ford does not seem to be providing updates for real bugs in the system. I guess, like all software companies, they'd like us to move to the "subscription" system and just buy a new car every year. I plan on keeping this for a good long while. The car I traded in was a 2001 Focus wagon with 163,000 miles.
Hi, JoseC -

3.1.1 is currently the latest version for your vehicle. You can check for updates any time by logging into your SYNC account, available updates will be listed under the SYNC UPDATES tab.

As updates and upgrades are released, announcements will be made here:

I'm going to try the fuse-pull to see if that works. This car is becoming very frustrating.
What exactly is going on, HRK1138? Does the system detect a USB device is connected? Are you using an mp3 player or a thumb drive? PM me the details, I'm happy to look into it. :)

Hi, bikerlbf406 -

This chart is a great break down of the difference between the two systems:

Hi, biggc -

SYNC isn't compatible with all device. To find one that will work, check out our compatibility chart:

If anyone has additional questions, shoot me a PM.

Jaclyn,

Thanks for your response. Can you please confirm that what's happening when trying to switch from USB input to Line in ("Line in is unavailable when a device is connected to USB".) is legitimate behavior and there's no workaround other than opening the armrest and unplugging the USB device?
Again, it's sort of counter-intuitive because the line in will play happily while a USB device is connected *until* I actually play from the USB.

Jaclyn
Following this link takes you to a page where you can follow the "Exploring Entertainment by voice" link to a more detailed list of commands. The list of available commands does appear to be complete for the 2012 Focus with Sync/MyFord (no touch). However, at the top, it says: "SYNC® voice commands can control your AM/FM radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, USB media player, or Bluetooth® Audio device.27 "

The "27" is probably some fine print somewhere (which I couldn't find) but the part about controlling the AM/FM/Sirius radio, of course, doesn't work on these models.

It would be nice if Ford could clarify exactly what features are available at what level. My "in-car technology specialist" who "worked with me at delivery" (10 minutes sitting in the car pressing buttons) was unable to explain it clearly, and may even have been wrong about some of the capabilities he described. Of course, at that point, you get what you get, but there should be someplace that clearly spells this out before that point.

Again, thanks for your time and effort in clearing things up.

Joe

Sorry. What I meant by that is that the iPhone 5 is not even out yet so who knows? I preordered one this morning. When I get it I will be more than happy to report back on the good/bad/ugly for that specific model but until one of us gets one, who knows? Hopefully with iOS 6 supporting MAP it will be better than it is now but that is a function of the OS, which will be able to be installed on previous iterations of the iPhone, and not the iPhone 5 specifically. Until one of us gets our hands on one, we are all in the dark as to how it is going to work (I guess assumptions can be made but assuming is always a bad idea).

You're welcome, Joe. You should be able to switch from USB to LINE IN, by giving the voice command LINE IN. I'm going to get a hold of a thumb drive and try this out on my display here. To clarify, when this happens, are music files from the USB actively playing?

You're absolutely right about the fine print. If you scroll down the page, you'll see: VIEW ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES.

27. SYNC is available on most Ford vehicles. Features/functionality vary by vehicle/model. Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control. Only use SYNC/MyFord Touch/other devices, even with voice commands, when it is safe to do so. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Traffic alerts and turn-by-turn directions available in select markets. Message and data rates may apply. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

Hi, CliftonBruce -

The Samsung Galaxy III hasn't been tested and we yet to be able to do the same with the iPhone 5. I know when the Galaxy S II on the T-Mobile network was tested, it supported text messaging. In order for a phone to work with this feature, it must support Message Access Profile (MAP). This is a Bluetooth standard developed for the exchange of text messages.

For a list of tested devices, check out:

http://Support.Ford.com/sync-technol...atibility-sync

As new iPhone info is available, it will be shared here:

http://Boards.SyncCommunity.com/n/pf...cmb&listMode=0

If you have any additional question, please let me know. :)

Sync Gen 1 V 3.1.4.C on 2012 SE HB

Does anyone know if this is the most current version and does it support AppsLink? I am using a Blackberry Curve 3G from Sprint. I have the update on an SD card and want to update if need be. Thanks in advance.

HAHA My apologies there Copernicium! I have an iPhone 5 on the way on the 21st. Had a 3g for the last couple of years and I like it.. Had TONS of problems with the 1st Motorola Android phone so it sort of ruined my desire to get another one.. It was the quirkiest damn device in the world.. But.. you never know how things improve.. The 1st Droid was a long time ago now.. ANYWAY.. decided to stick with Apple..Loved the phone so I'm sure I'll love the new one.. :)
