We bought a new 2011 Ranger Sport last year.

I think the problem with the Ranger is that it was just too long in the tooth. I loved the way it looked. What I did not like about it was that after 4K miles, it was still only getting around 16 MPG. The V6 in the Ranger Sport sucked gas like it was going out of style. We ended up trading it for a new Fusion. Last week, we traded that Fusion on a 2012 Focus SE Sport.

I would love to see the "World Ranger" brought to America, but from what I have read, that ain't going to happen anytime soon.

A "modern" Ranger would be awesome!

"I can understand Ford getting rid of it, but it doesn't take the sadness out of it at all. Goodbye to a really nice little truck. . . ." Very well stated!

Oh yes I was a die hard TRS member for years I've slacked off big time the past year or so since I started to put money into the focus. I'm still over there under the same user name. I even had my lowering springs done at jim oaks house. (I've got pics) Fun times.

As it was said before= profits 1st. As you know Ford needs to revamp= redo the Ranger w/ new motors= like maybe the 16 & 20 ecoboost motors. They had to drop the last old style ranger. We all knew it was coming. Ford would love to have a unit body ranger size truck. Are you guys ready or want something like that? Problibly not. When people say truck they think body on frame as you know.

+1 for TRS. That's the forum I used when I had the Ranger, and I still like to poke around on it every now and then.

Speaking of TRS, they're the Forum of the Month over on Rockauto:

It's a very basic F150, crank windows, manual locks, etc. It runs right around the same price as a new Ranger, its better on fuel, can haul more, and it comes as either a 2wd or a 4x4. Not to mention that it's got a sporty appearance pack with alloy rims and a paint matched grille. Really good value for someone who wants an affordable basic truck that doesn't look basic as it drives down the road. PLUS, it's cheaper than an XL, cause its more "light duty"

So you get this, for a starting price of 21,521 CDN.

Here's a little excerpt from the Ford website.
The STX is nothing new.Almost every years,Ford puts together a basic F-150,makes it more sporty and sales it as the "STX".In the 80's Ford called it the "Explorer" before the name was used for the SUV.What's new is to make an ad where they are basically calling Ranger owners "Idiots".With some questionnable accounting leaving dry people who loved the Ranger 4cyl,Ford's tell you what you really need. This may work for some ,but those who wanted a simple compact truck for city driving ,this pretty much says:"Go see GM,Toyota and Nissan, because you are not welcome anymore.

This shouldn't take too long before it backfires.

Here's my prediction right or wrong.

Ford lost sales in small truck market
Didn't want to spend money to "revamp" it right now for NA
Will focus on the larger trucks for a few years
Will test their new engines in other vehicles
Will pay off some more debt on profitable vehicles
Will engineer a new small truck in the future for NA
Will hype the crap out of it and it sells like hotcakes
