Wow, thank you very much! I've said before and I'll say it again, feedback like this surprises me at times. This all started out innocently enough, back when I was looking for an inexpensive winter car and ultimately bought the Focus. I can't help but tinker with it, and to hear such great comments and compliments means a lot.

Show and Shine, and Recaro?

Today was another large annual show and shine. I've attended the past couple of years with the Grand Prix, but this year unfortunately it's stuck out in storage and I couldn't find a driver for it anyway. The Focus and my mother's Thunderbird attended though, and the weather turned from questionable to quite nice during the day. No prizes, no categories, just a friendly gathering in support of MADD and a good way to start winding down the show season.

A couple of friends met up at our house this morning and we set off in a four-car convoy to head down to the business park where it was held. You may recall the silver Mercedes from my lip install, it was part of it along with the black 330XI, and the Thunderbird of course.

Just after we got home a massive storm starting coming through, but fortunately all cars were hidden by that time; it was lucky that it didn't hit during the show!

While at the show I also had a chance to test out Terence's Recaro. It's a Profi XL model which he currently has up for sale as the other has been traded and he's looking to change it up a bit. I imagined it'd be way too big for me (being the XL size) but actually, it's a pretty good fit. So now I'm debating it to replace the Focus' driver's seat, as it'd be far cheaper than getting an ST Recaro and it still matches the interior's colours about as well as it can.

Here's a better picture that Terence had taken:

We need to research the mounting as we've never thrown one in a Mk3 Focus, obviously, but it's tempting. With my birthday coming up it could be a neat treat for myself, though I'm not sure how I'd like living with a fixed bucket in my daily. I do want it though.

Well as I've said before, nice ride! And that seat would look great. But I'd go for two because I am a fan of symmetry.

Unfortunately the second is gone, and retrofitting this to the passenger side would be a pain since we'd have to deal with occupancy sensors for the passenger airbags.

Hadn't thought about that. The wiring would suck.

Realizing the Focus ST-R concept utilizes Recaro products for its seat and mounts, I've sent off an email to Recaro seeing what they have (if anything) for the 2012 Focus. I shall wait for their reply.

I emailed a couple of companies regarding mounts for the Mk3 Foci, to allow the fitting of aftermarket seats. I received an email from Planted Technology today, asking me to spread the word that they're looking for a Mk3 so that they can start developing such a piece.

Downforce lip kit information:

I figured I'd write up a short post to answer some questions regarding my Downforce lip, and share a little more information now that pricing has been released for the kit.

MOUNTING

As I mentioned the lip is held in place via 3M tape along the upper edge and a combination of clips and screws in the 6 existing holes along the bottom of the bumper.

Looking underneath, you'll find the 6 holes each with a clip in place from the factory. After some experimenting, the mounting method we would up with was to keep the clips in the outermost locations - one on each side - and replace the inner four with small nuts, bolts, and washers. I happened to have an unopened package in the garage with appropriately-sized pieces, but a run to a hardware or general automotive store should get you what you need.

As it sits, the lip and bumper are held together using the nuts and bolts, as well as a washer both on top and bottom to spread the pressure out over a greater area. Because we couldn't feed a bolt in from above the undertray, instead we left it loose for those four holes so only the bumper and lip are held together by the nuts and bolts. The outer clips still hold the shield though, as do all of its other fasteners underneath.

PRICING

Downforce has shared the prices (USD) for their pieces. There are three for each, for FRP, partial carbon fiber, and full carbon fiber, respectively.

Piece: FRP/Partial CF/Full CF
Front lip: $350/450/550 (Fits hatch and sedan)
Side skirts: $350/500/900 (Fits hatch and sedan)
Rear valence: $350/450/550 (Fits hatch ONLY)

Hopefully this helps those who have questions or just want to know more about the kit.
