No silencer/resonator in Euro Focus'?

I just put a K&N into my 2011 Focus 1.6L and I noticed that my airbox doesn't have a hole in the bottom for the silencer that I commonly see in peoples airboxes here.

Mine looks like this, what is that piece of foam for? Is that a ghetto silencer?

Maybe it's just the shading, but it looks like the very front left corner (to the left of the foam) may lead to a resonator

Maybe corporate just thinks that us Mericans need quieter intakes

It's just the shading, that corner is solid. Maybe the 1.6's don't need them.

I have the exact airbox as this. I wanted a bit more noise so I redneck rigged it...... sealed it with duct tape...... Just as a test will do it better once I get some time.

The car was built in Germany, but where was the engine made? On the U.S. models with the 2.0L GDI Ti-VCT engine its built in Dearborn and has a date sticker on the passenger side of the car on the valve cover, like this:



This is out of my car, the engine was built 12 days before the car was assembled. (4/11/12 vs 4/23/12)

I ask because it could be possible that they imported the powertrain as assembled from the U.S. just as they import the 2.0L EcoBoost from Spain, and the 1.6L EcoBoost From England.

what do you mean by redneck rigged ? is there a way to do this to mine ? lol its a 06 tho .,
