However I'm sure that if you had really wanted to put the standard bumper cover and grille panels on the car instead of the ST specific pieces you will have to either open the triangular grilles or dremel holes in the lower air dam to mimic the ST.

The remainder of the air induction portions of the grilles are the same just styled to look differently.

The main bulk of the air currently is coming in through the lower grille, between the area blocked occasionally by the shutter system and the lower openings in the front bumper cover/ air dam.
Right, that's exactly what I was suggesting.

I'll plan to take these picture once either my ST shows up or they start appearing at local dealerships.

Are the shutters part of the grill/bumper, or are they behind it? In other words, if I remove the bumper, does this mechanism have to be disconnected? Thanks!

Edit: found some good pictures here:

The non-ST in that photo has a ground effects kit... so the front bumper appears more aggressive than it is for North American cars. Looks like the Zetec S model, as it's a UK car and they offer that trim over there, which adds lower skirts.

Nice kit, though. Thinking of putting one on mine at some point.

Even without it though, the ST is just too roundish in the front to be aggressive IMO.

I'm assuming that the 1.0 litre ecoboost has an intercooler front mounted like the 2.0 liter version. If so, it looks like the Focus with the 1.0L engine has open mesh grills. This car looks absolutely fantastic:

http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/59...ost-car-review

It looks like this mesh design would do a good job with air flow/cooling, although I'm sure the ST's intercooler will be doing a lot more work.

Edit - oops, never mind. The side grills are closed, too.

That's the Zetec-S body kit, with the mesh look on the grilles, but they aren't really more open than that of the standard car since its no more powerful than the basic models, and therefore doesn't have a need to cool more than a 2.0L i4 gdi, the 1.6L EcoBoost or up to the 2.0L duratorq diesel. Those are very much not open at all.

But the side inserts could be usable for the Newmission intake mod.

Hamiltonian,

Have you swapped your grille yet for your ST? I have an OW Sedan I'd love to put the ST front end on. We could even swap considering we're the same color. I'm north of Pittsburgh PA.. Not a far drive to you.
