No one is stopping you from spending nearly $2000 per corner just for the housings alone, let alone the wiring, ballasts and the bulbs, that would be quite an expensive change to make after the fact if you had to buy genuine Ford service parts for the job at hand.

It should cost far less for them to do it at the factory, maybe charge no more than 2k for both lamps installed bundled with other features such as MFT or something. Not just a stand alone option for 4k.

I think I spent a little over 1/10th of that ($4K) to install HID's and Projectors in my Focus.

Sure, but I was saying that in order to use the genuine parts it was listed at nearly 1800/ corner just for the hid projector housings, plus bulbs, and ballasts, etc, it would add up really quickly to well over 20-30% of the cars value if you weren't careful. Vs it being factory installed for a few hundred to about a thousand dollars more.

Having said that, it isn't really even much of an "option", as you're basically putting replacement parts for a different car in your own and trying to get it to work for $4000.

Other cars seem to charge no more than $1000 as a factory option, or just include it in upper trims (such has been the case in the Mazda3 GT for some years now).

Because now you are talking about a core return program.

The 18" option on the Titanium costs what, 450?

Getting those very same 18s, the tires and TPMS sensors say from your dealership later on costs 3780; the price I was quoted.

The reason OEM setups cost less is because you aren't paying the full price, you're just paying the difference from the regular assemblies and electrical bits to the HID assemblies.

Of course. I was referring to the comment above suggesting that they might be a $2000 factory option. I think it would be less than or around $1000 as a standalone option, although realistically, it should only be $500 or so.

Of course it's much more expensive buying the parts outright... However, each multireflector headlight only costs around $250-$300 factory, so $1800 per headlight assembly is a bit steep without the bulbs, ballasts, or controller.

The comment was that like on the ST its only available as a part of a nearly $4000 options package, not that the hid assemblies would be a stand alone option for $2000 or so. I.e. in order to get one thing you want you'll have to buy a bunch of other things you may or may not want or need.

The stand alone options comment was referring to how one would have to buy everything ala carte after the fact to make the system work rather than only paying the price differential for the housings, bulbs, ballasts, etc.

If the bulbs are a $1000 upgrade and they bundle it with MFT and something else I can see that easily making a $2000+ options package just like on the ST, which is a bit steep and bundles things together that not everyone would want or enjoy.

In Canada, there's only one ST trim, which has HIDs standard. I agree with everything you've said. I still think the parts themselves are overpriced. Perhaps they'll come down a bit when production shortages are done, but I sure wouldn't hold my breath.

I think Craig's retrofit is a great alternative, done very well. It's a shame the headlights are so hard to open up compared with previous vehicles.
