Sure, but I was saying that in order to use the genuine parts it was listed at nearly 1800/ corner just for the hid projector housings, plus bulbs, and ballasts, etc, it would add up really quickly to well over 20-30% of the cars value if you weren't careful. Vs it being factory installed for a few hundred to about a thousand dollars more.

Having said that, it isn't really even much of an "option", as you're basically putting replacement parts for a different car in your own and trying to get it to work for $4000.
Other cars seem to charge no more than $1000 as a factory option, or just include it in upper trims (such has been the case in the Mazda3 GT for some years now). |

The reason OEM setups cost less is because you aren't paying the full price, you're just paying the difference from the regular assemblies and electrical bits to the HID assemblies.

Of course. I was referring to the comment above suggesting that they might be a $2000 factory option. I think it would be less than or around $1000 as a standalone option, although realistically, it should only be $500 or so.
Of course it's much more expensive buying the parts outright... However, each multireflector headlight only costs around $250-$300 factory, so $1800 per headlight assembly is a bit steep without the bulbs, ballasts, or controller. |

In Canada, there's only one ST trim, which has HIDs standard. I agree with everything you've said. I still think the parts themselves are overpriced. Perhaps they'll come down a bit when production shortages are done, but I sure wouldn't hold my breath. I think Craig's retrofit is a great alternative, done very well. It's a shame the headlights are so hard to open up compared with previous vehicles. |
