Yes its an interference engine (zetec was not)

in Ford, pretty much true. in other manufacturers, not true. Hondas with belts are generally interference, Hyundais with belts are generally interference as well.

That means when the chain or belt flys apart The valves connect w/ the pistons= no good

chains rarely break, but can stretch and make things not run as well (a lot dont list a service change, only to check at 100-150k)

belts can break easier (rubber (think supercharger kinda belt) vs metal) and intervals are usually 60-90k range for change

The chain runs in an oil bath, so there is a metal cover over it. Most belts don't require lubrication, so they are visible on the outside of the engine or just behind a plastic cover.
