You have to tune either way or you'll get a CEL. they're supposed to help with low end power and economy. But they also hinder overall power.

Since you have a 23 in place of a 20, Why not try to make the 23 manifold work? Do you have the 23 pcm?

the mazda guys delete these on a normal basis. and even on the stock tune runs just fine. they have to do with the cold idle more then anything else in all truth. you do see a little gain in the top end from removing them. low and mid range is unchanged.
also the mazda 2.0's dont have them, but the mazda 2.3's do. id assume the ford counter parts are the same. |

You can buy a new one from Ford for $200. or you can remove them altogether but you'd need a tune, if you remove them.

I am actually not going to replace the manifold or remove them. There are replacement flaps which is the cheapest way to fix the problem. I am just going to be replacing the whole motor. I also have cylinder head issues and its just not worth paying $900 for a head from the dealer when I can buy a complete motor with 15k miles om it for $1,250.

Well i got the part number for them. And it will cost half what it would cost to replace the whole manifold.
