Ford Escape

I think the only ones they ever sold were the ones that they gave away to a few people on Survivior.

They have to be the most hideous vehicle on the planet now that the gremlins have all rusted away !

I traded the leather (SEL) for the HID's. I'm surprised so few Ford's have the HID headlights

I found out that my wait was so long because the first one built for me was one of the cars damaged in the hail storm.

Local Ford dealer has a black SEL on the lot and took a look Sunday. Like the looks and appears a bit bigger in the back. Though I do not understand why they put car tires on it (Continentals) same as on the Focus. Very slippery on light snow as found out last February.

They put car tires on it because its a car, the main unibody is similar to that of the Focus, as its based on the same C-car design, albeit tweaked into a CUV like the European Kuga which is basically what the new Escape is intended to be, more of a CUV and a soft roader than a rough and tumble looking SUV like the boxier old version.

Yes but even though the previous Escape was a true crossover it still took true SUV tires, like Continental CrossContact LX or Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. Both of which I had on my Escapes. The gentleman has a point that the new Escape, which weighs roughly the same and has the same payload / tow ratings, has switched to true car tires for some reason.

Why would Ford put truck tires on the new Escape? Compared to the old one, this one seems designed for mostly road work, so Ford was probably more concerned about handling and fuel economy than utility, which fits most of the crossover/small SUV crowd.

My grandfather's 2009 Mariner had Michelin light truck tires, as it was a car pretending to be a truck. The new one switched to passenger car tires because they tend to have lower rolling resistance and probably better fuel economy plus better handling than light truck tires.
