SVT Turbo Build
Hey guys so as of this past Saturday my license is suspended for next 6 months :( why I say this? Because I have decided to make this next 6 months my time to build my SVT and make it one nasty mean FWD car! It is a daily driver for summer this thing does not see snow!! So I have $1.800 now and For next 6 months I will be working so this number will increase!! I planned on going with Focus-Power's DIY turbo Kit. Tom says it can put 350ish to wheels with right engine build! What parts tho? Never turbo'd a N/A car b4 so def going to need some help! Any help would be appreciated! obviously going to need stronger clutch so prob gonna go with a Stg IV clutch master kit with the lightweight aluminum flywheel. What else am I going to need for the DIY turbo kit to not blow my engine and see mid to high 13's? I have 6 months so no rush here! Want to this the right way, no shortcuts!
Thanks Jake |

Good luck with the build! Theres alot to do and even more to learn! Coming from a guy who just finished his install on Toms Kit.
For 350whp... you need: 1.Clutch 2.LSD (optional, but HIGHLY reccomended) 3.New Pistons 4.Headwork 5.Stronger Engine Mounts You should also consider new suspension, timing belt, water pump, and other such things. All said and done, expect to spend over $7,000 on a build like this.

Oem reoplacements cept for the mounts? And the svt block has higher compression and stronger rods n pistons than a zetec. He could get 300 most likelh on a stock block. But get a clutch

1800 is a decent start, but be prepared to AT LEAST double that.
I think I'm at 3700.00 so far, and I still need a clutch and LSD(optional) oh and oil lines & fittings, drivers side motor mount, and i'm sure something else will come up. Mind you, i've found GREAT deals on most of my parts.. if you're paying retail for all of this, the price is going to jump and jump quickly. check out my thread, it will help you get started on what you need and what is suggested. http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266902 ohhh yeah, you can't forget about tuning! that's another 550 if you are working with Tom, and probably more from other places. as for power, Toms kit at 10 PSI on a stock motor will put you at about 200-220 WHP I think he said you would need to run 17-19 PSI for 300whp+?? i'm sure he can clear that up. (I have his kit BTW.) I suggest you really read up in this forum, there is a TON of info you will need to know before you get started. My advice to you is to plan out your build before you buy anything.. make sure you are set on what you want to do. I thought i knew what i wanted to do and ended up spending 500+ bucks on crap i'm not even going to use. Take your time and have fun!

From what I understand, Tom's kit is good for over 250whp on a stock SVT block. And he mentioned building past 300 with a larger turbo. Either way.. If I put together all my bills to my current point Used turbo kit with most everything - $2000 Stg 3 Clutch/flywheel - $950 Timing Belt + Install - $350 Tool rentals to install clutch - $150 SCT Tuner +Toms Tune - $900 ($350+550) Misc other accessories - $500+ If i have done my math right, ive spent nearly $5000 thus far, and I am going for a mild build. This is not including the $350 i spent on a J&S that I decided not to use.

yeah, i'll be over 5k for sure. I don't have a clutch or lsd yet so that will add another 2k?
that's way too much for a timing belt instal! i paid 170? for timing belt, tensioners, pullies, water pump, serp crap. did you have someone do it for you?? I paid 100 bucks for SCT! I seriously lucked out and got a ton of my parts in the BST section. if you keep an eye out, you can cut a ton of the cost. When i last talked to Tom, he said i could run 15 PSI on his kit and be at 260-270 WHP and be just fine.. any more he recommends the BAP and some internal work. edit- i paid the same for my J&S that i'm not going to use! plan your builds out!

It's not cheap but it's money spent that you get to enjoy! I know that lsd is "optional" but if you try pushing that much power without it I am sure you will regret not installing it the first time you try to launch or gun it out of a turn. Good luck with your build bro!

I paid full price for my SCT, couldnt find one used, and didnt want to bother with shipping it out for restoration. I had my timing belt done.. I was so tired of all the work i was doing.. i just took it to a shop. Out of sight, out of mind. Ive cut alot of cost with the BST section as well, but Im also buying new on alot of parts simply because I dont want to take the chance on a used part going wrong. This is my daily, so i need it to be reliable. I really would like to do the LSD at some point. I figure sometime next year i might have my trans cleaned up and rebuilt. A local trans shop said they might be able to change the gearing on 6th since they did it on a Cooper S. It would be cool to do that and a LSD at the same time.
