About 10 miles. There's this little run I do after filling up to see how high I can get. I've always done it at 35 because that's the speed limit. Recently somebody posted somewhere a graph that they had mapped using scanguage that showed 40mph to be the sweet spot. So I gave 40 a shot and it got me 8 mpg higher than I was able to at 35.

I am actually kind of concerned. I bought the 2012 Focus S manual and I have over 1 and a half tanks gone less then 350 miles. I am averaging 18-24 mpg, not a lot of freeway driving but I must say I am a little bit worried. Is anyone else having a similar experience. Granted first few days I drove it "hard" but honestly not even to the redline situations more then a few times. It wants me to shift to fifth at 40 MPH and that's a little annoying when a light just turned red a block away. I have now been driving like a grandma but, my results don't seem to be improving. Also, how much would it have cost to put a fricken MPG read out on the S?

That makes me feel better, I traded my 2006 Toyota Corolla, that I drove for 2 to 4 days on a half tank, to having a full tank from the dealership be used in 2 days and I didn't even have work. (barely got 200 miles on my first tank)

I just put in my 1st tank of 91 and we'll see what the premium experiment returns. Immediatly I did notice my miles til empty was 305 when it has never read above 295 previously with 85 and that was with just a 1 mile drive home from the station.
I'm,of course, going to figure it on paper also but I'm starting with an indicated 26.4mpg and a real 29.4mpg on paper with all city driving and nearly 100% with the AC on.

If the gas prices hadn't jumped so much this week, I'd give it a try. I'm happy getting 340 miles til empty for now

EDIT: Meant to say 20, but did the math on the $2. Last edited by A-to-the-J; 07-14-2012 at 05:35 PM. |

Not everybody will see the same results with premium so it's good to try it out and see if the extra cost matches the miles per gallon since driving styles can wildy very the results.
I've tried it on my 4Runner and there is no gain but with the Focus I'm hoping for the best.
