Update: The E0 93 fuel didn't noticeably increase my gas mileage over the E0 91. In fact, I think it went down (it was a different brand of gas, not sure how much that matters).
EDIT: Why haven't I just bought a damn scangauge already? |

I just filled again with 105 octane E85 on the north side of Minneapolis and drove 268 miles to north west Iowa. Drove 70 mph with air conditioning on most of the time with a few miles with a slight headwind. There were a few towns and stop lights along the way. Filled up close to home and got 31.6 mpg.

Too much octane will waste fuel. The unburnt fuel will go right out your tailpipe.

I tried E-85 when I was living in Colorado for two reasons: A. it was much cheaper; B. I was told that I would gain HP through its use. All I really noticed was the fuel gauge moving a lot faster than with normal petrol.

E85 can have up to 33% less energy content, so you're not likely to gain any power through its use. The only advantage I see is reducing our dependence on Middle-Eastern oil. But the stuff is not good for engines, fuel systems or MPG.

31.6MPG on E85 is about right for a full tank on predominantly fwy driving. I average about 37 under the same conditions on my rank old '02 using E10. So, if the new car will get about 39/40 highway using E10, this is right in the ballpark for E85.
