Question for Troy,

I live in Cali, is there any timetable on a model that is CA street legal?

I'd really love to purchase this :(

Sorry for the delay Adenhart,

Currently there are no plans to C.A.R.B. Certify this kit, you can always check back with me later. Just so everyone knows if this kit or any other kit for the focus is released and is C.A.R.B. legal I will update the OP. As well as if this kit becomes certified, thanks again everyone!

Troy.

Maybe I'm being stupid... but does it really matter if it's legal in California? I can always swap back to stock for smog... maybe I'm missing something. What kind of fines/penalties could I run into?

Looking for input from people besides Troy on this one, haha.

Just installed this thing (finally). It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be after reading the directions-- it probably took me 60-90 minutes altogether.

My concerns about the loudness were unfounded; as someone else stated before with the throttle at 0-50% (which is the majority of my daily driving) it is indistinguishable from stock. When getting on to the highway it has a nice growl, which I don't mind.

I was most concerned about the existence of a drone, but there isn't any.

Yes, it matters. Because with out that ridiculous special little CARB sticker, you won't pass smog. Or if you get stopped and a police officer asked to see under your hood (which they can legally do) and you don't have a CARB sticker, they can cite you, and at their discretion send you to the state referee for a full vehicle inspection(which also isn't free) The latter is VERY unlikely because this is a brand new car we are talking about, not a '90s Honda Civic with a four foot wing, coffee can tail pipe and a hello kitty dangling from the rear bumper.

(no offense if any of you own something like this)
Now with that being said, you can risk it and just put it back to stock before smog comes around, but what a time consuming pain in the butt. That is if you can remember how to return it properly and can find all the stock pieces still. It's just wise to stay legit.

Okay Troy, I understand California is a liberal, granola eating, money sucking, powerful engine hating, requires extra BS hoops to jump through for every freakin thing, kind of state; but it is still one of the biggest and BEST states in the union! So please don't punish us because we like perfect weather and beautiful women!! Give us our CARB stickers and double your sales(slight exaggeration for effect)!!!

Just a question for someone who may know more than I;
If Ford had dozens of engineers and millions in research for the new focus' engine, and there was a way to increase power AND fuel economy, don't you all think they would have already done it? Why would a smaller company(I'm not by any means calling K&N small) who undoubtedly spent way less on R&D than Ford, be able to improve so much on something which has been already developed so thoroughly? Do you think it is only a noise issue? Because the difference in cost for materials for both a CAI and what they put into the stock Ford intake must be marginal. So what gives?

Don't get me wrong, I brought home my brand new sport pack SE hatch tonight(YES!!!!) and I DO want one of these K&N CAI's! (CARB sticker please Troy!!!!!!!!!)
