Just started my change-over to 93. I was using Shell 87 and ran that down, put in about 3 gallons of Shell V Power 93 octane in the other day and almost done running that down, and will be putting the 1st full tank of 93 in most likely tomorrow. Will report on findings.

How many tanks are you going to commit to?

I'm about to fill up today or tomorrow with my third tank of "Super" and I haven't been able to tip the scales at more than 31mpg... But... I did install the K&N Intake and do the lunchbox delete at the same time. So... I may have to trash all my other data and start from scratch. Also of note, I've been running my A/C more due to temps lately, which may muck up an increase that may be there... Damn trying to be scientific.

I am on the second tank of 91 and I do see a difference (for the better). I use AC auto mode every time and we had some hot days last weeks. I only reset the mpg right after the fill up, and never during two tanks, and I saw better numbers. Not much, but I will continue to use 91 as long is under 1.4$/L and see where it goes.

My fuelly is here: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273785
I don't drive like a granny though, this car is too fun to drive!

COME ALIVE, DEAD THREAD, WE RESURRECT YOU!!!

I would probably assume that anyone who has run a full tank through is probably at the point that they would notice the difference if they stepped back down to 87. I have always recommended 3 full tanks, but that may have been because of my car going through its 'learning' stages.

I don't know for sure what the minimum amount of fuel would be, but I'm pretty sure that whenever you step down you will notice the difference. When I dropped some 87 back in my tank, I thought my car had a problem just because of how sluggish it had become.

Either way, enjoy experimenting now while the gas prices are still low. Elections coming...

I ran a tank of 89 octane for the first time last week. I've been running the A/C a lot around town, which I normally try not to do. Anyway, it seemed to me that there was less of the "bog" from a stop with that tank than the 87 tanks I ran before and after. Now that I'm back to 87 I feel like I have to feather the clutch more when launching with A/C on.

Last time I ran 87 with the AC on I nearly had to floor the car to get it to move when making a left turn from a stop... the car barely moved - I thought I was going to die.

Not sure yet, though generally speaking, I do believe a higher grade of fuel is overall, better for your car as it gives you access to the best additive pack you can get.

Likely once tuning becomes available I'm going to do a re-tune for 93 anyhow, since by then I'll have my CAI and exhaust.

I used to be an mpg guy and greatly cared about mileage. The only things I really detest spending money on are food and gas. You have to spend money on both, I know, I just hate doing it.

Now I just want my car to do what's right. If I say gas, you go. 87 octane and the stock filter did not follow that mantra. I said gas, they said screw you, I'll get to it when I feel like it. Not cool.

I don't race people, and while I document hp I don't overly care about it. I just want to drive and enjoy it, and if I get some extra mpg's it's an added bonus. I still don't use my AC in the mornings, but I sure as hell turn it on after work.

I do 93 octane for the smiles it puts on my face, and the wow factor I see when another Focus owner puts the pedal down in my car.
