Hello TboneZX3 - We had sent you a hardware kit to space out your MAF from the heat shield, in reading the thread it appears you used your own solution. We were waiting to hear back from you on how the parts we sent worked out when we last spoke on 6/12/2012, sorry for the confusion and delayed response.

Were there any other forum members like TboneZX3 with MAF allignment issues? (Heat shield + MAFsensor or housing contact) If so please PM me so I can contact you and document this issue, thanks!

I appreciate you sending me the hardware kit. However, the hardware kit you sent me (the same as the one in the original kit) would not have worked very well, as there were no washers in there close to the same outer diameter as the rubber studs. IMO, centering the hole properly in the heat shield and including larger studs or spacers (as I used in my solution, documented in post #12 of this thread) are the proper solutions to this, not just throwing more washers at it.

I sent you an email on 6/23 directing you to this thread and my solution in post #12, so you should not have been waiting to hear from me. After that email was sent, I have not received an email from you. As I previously stated, I'm not concerned about my installation as much as those who are buying the kit now and not really aware of the issue. After the modifications in post #12 were completed, my kit fits together perfectly, with no contact between MAF/housing & heat shield.

TboneZX3 - I'm sorry for the miscommunication. It seems that you were the only one that experienced this particular issue so we do believe it is an isolated incident, however if anyone else has had this issue please contact me as we must document any common issues. I appreciate everyones patience, thank you again.

I'm not sure how this could be an isolated incident. The two heat shields K&N sent me fit identically, and my MAF housing is no different than anyone else's. I could very easily see how most people would not even notice the bottom of the MAF housing contacting the heat shield.

Please check the email I sent you on 6/12. You will see that I mentioned FF user wantz12, who has also mentioned on the board here that he has the same issue. I also suggested at that time that he contact you.

He mentioned it in this post, which was a reply to my install post on the prior page, where I first mentioned the issue in post #192 of that thread on 6/1 : http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...=K%26N&page=17

Mine looks just like yours TBone so it certainly isn't isolated. I haven't noticed an issue yet because of it but I am keeping an eye on the filter and checking that it is still seated tightly very regularly.

My concern from that issue is not that the filter will fall off. My concern is that, since the MAF isn't properly "suspended" in the hole by the rubber mounts, the vibrations from the engine/throttle body will not be properly isolated from the MAF. Also, engine movement could cause a binding situation between the MAF housing and the heat shield. This could cause damage (cracking) to the housing itself in the long run.
