My grandmother did this once... went though the clear, then the paint faded and flaked, and we had a nice rusty oldsmobile, except for the plastic fenders, which cracked like every other oldsmobile ever made.

BUT, now that there is already damage you could just buy a DA orbital and some Meguiars Ultimate Compound and give it a shot. You probably won't do any more damage (hard to do with a DA even on perfect paint). Maybe there is a member here who can loan you a polisher? Either way you could resell it afterwards. These guys have nice packages and ship quick for a reasonable cost: http://www.detailedimage.com/DI-Pack...asic-Kit-P335/
Yeah, what he said ^^. I picked up a "Meguiar's Professional Dual Action Polisher" on Amazon for $150 bucks + $10 foam pad + $9 polishing compound. So, depending on how much a professional shop wants, it may be worth doing yourself and then you will have the polisher for life or to sell. I guess this also depends on how much time and patience you have because even with the machine, it's a fair amount of work.

I don't see why you'd think that, honestly. People can be pretty well, thoughtless sometimes. My fiancee's mother once washed her car with dish soap and dried it off with really abrasive bath towels. Swirl city.

LOL and I was singing to the beat. damn now it is in my head.

To the OP this sucks and if not to bad someone should be able to buff it out maybe wet sand it if needed. Worst case, get new paint from MAACO/ any chain type paint shop for a couple hundred at least temporary and either save or if you have the money already just go and get a custom paint job done.

I have never used MAACO personally but I know some people that have and the paint has held up pretty nicely for years. I think one friend just did a single stage on a daily and that was like 5 years ago.
