Fast Track
Well.. that sucks for STS..
I didn't think i was going to keep the Miata anyway. My buddy just purchased an 07 Miata MS-R and has been running C-stock nationally.. http://www.scca.com/assets/12-fastrack-july-solo.pdf

I think it would be a bad move if the 195/50 was put on the exclusion list. There is not enough data from STF to determine if it is a "magic tire" in that class. Also they would be hurting a big contingency sponsor.
Comment: This size has proven to be faster than the rest of the R1R lineup, and in classes in which some cars can use this tire where other cars cannot, it is discouraging participation by those unable to use it. It is the opinion of the SEB that those members who are currently running this tire have many other options which will maintain the competitiveness of their car, while also encouraging more participation by those members who cannot use this size. Much of the feedback to the now withdrawn proposal to raise the treadwear limit contained suggestions that the SEB better utilize the exclusion list, versus making a wholesale change to the treadwear limit. This proposal is in response to that feedback. What classes are being hurt by the 195 Toyo? STC/S are spec classes so I don't think its from anyone there. STF people? Has anyone done any hardcore examination of the tire to determine its "good rubber goes to the cords" rumor? What data are they looking at that shows the 195s domination? (We will probably never know that) Does anyone know of any people local to them that are really developing a Focus for the STF? I know Andy Hollis is working hard on his 2 and the results are showing it (he is not local to me, I've just been following his build on facebook). I've been running the 195/50 on my STS CRX locally and it is a rather amazing tire. I started them at full depth (no shaving) and they are just getting better and better. I know that they are supposed to have soft side walls, but I've been running them at 26 front and 27 rear for autox (recommended street pressure for the car is 28) and I've never had an issue with too much sidewall flex, even when my co-driver goes plowing through a turn. Has anyone ever tried the 225/45 or 205/50 R1R on the Focus? The 225 is rated at 1201 lbs. Or even the 225/50/16 which is rated at 1389 lbs. What about the RS3 in a 225/45/15? I'll be writing my letter to keep the tire off the exclusion list. But if it does get excluded I guess I'll run the 225/45 Toyo or the RS3.

The Miata STS guys have played with the 225 RS3, and I've heard that the 1.8 miata does better with them. but i chose the R1R, i like this tire a lot. Tomorrow will be my 11th event on them and i have noticed them getting way better. I run about the same PSI as you, sometimes it feels sluggish but the grip is unreal.
How are you doing locally this season Paul?

What size r1r's on your Focus?
I currently am running r1r's on my sts CRX, and love them. However I started dissassembling the car today to sell. Looking for a zx3 to build for STF. I really think it has the potential to do well. Its like a poor mans Mini Cooper with more power and the same weight. Sent from my SCH-I510 using FF Mobile

Quote:
I'm doing pretty good locally. Top 10 finishes with our local small club (my co-driver is my only class competition and he is just learning fwd so I'm shooting for high PAX finishes). I've only done 2 events with my SCCA region. First event I was 4 seconds off the class winner. The second event I was only 0.6 off the class winner. And with the current set-up of my car verses the set-up of the other cars in class I'm very happy with that result. Quote:
What year is the CRX you're selling? Got any parts to sell? I've got a '90 Si with off the shelf Koni yellows/GC sleeves and pretty soft springs (450 front, 350 rear I believe). Looking to get heavier springs, I'm just not sure how much spring the Konis can handle. I haven't been able to get a hold of Koni and they haven't returned my emails.

Nice!! I wish I was doing that well.. currently I've been averaging 20th out of about 60 drivers. I'm getting faster, just not as fast enough.
I've read on the Miata forums that the OTS Koni is good for about 500lbs anything more you should get them re-valved or get some Koni Race shocks.
