Where'd you pick up the K&N drop in for $45? I saw it listed on their site for $55, and I'm not yet familiar with the typical Ford/Focus aftermarket suppliers. Thanks.

Here's autoanything at $48, I'm sure if you look further you will find cheaper. I seem to remember a member finding it for under $40...http://www.autoanything.com/air-filt...0A3079064.aspx

Amazon has had it listed previously for between $35-50, currently listed for $43.06 + free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00

I can honestly say, regardless of what you pay you will be impressed. When I borrowed my buddies stock filter, I threw my K&N in his car and told his wife to go drive it (it's her car). She was completely blown away. The lag from initial throttle application completely disappears. The engine is way more responsive and has the tiniest growl, despite being in the sealed box. And for 1/5th the cost of a full system, people should be pleased if they had 2-3 hp (mathematically).

You'll be pleased.

After I swap to the full K&N Typhoon intake I'll sell my "drop in" to someone. It'll find it's home in a third Mk3 :)

I would like to know your thoughts after you make your swap. Sound, SOP feel, and so on. I don't think I'll go past the drop-in and I am curious on whether I am missing out or not...

My 400th post goes to my newest nemesis!

Ok I'm more than sold on this. Just ordered a drop-in for $43 on Amazon; tomorrow or Wednesday. Great contribution dyn085, thank you!

The only thing that's more surprising than 10+ whp out of an air filter is how close it is to the gains from these "cold" air intakes for 6 times the money. But it really does make sense in hindsight.
