I believe with a ebc , you can double the wg spring pressure
. The controller sends the pressure to the wg at a lower psi. So litterly fooling the spring. Some one correct me if I am wrong.

What I find odd is you cannot find any WET oil even on the out side of the turbo , for it to be smoking you should be seeing some wet oil in the turbo on one side

Intake side would be wet in all the piping , Exh side the exducer should be wet some as well as the down pipe

Have you drove the car any sense the smoke VID to the showing turbo VID ?

Do you see any oil in the down pipe , have you done a compression test ?
