A cheap and easy mod for the front grill that's worth a million bucks,...

I think the red offers a nice contrast to the Sonic Blue, which being a little on the purple side has red in it anyway.

I still think I want to do something with my wheels to make them standout a bit more. I'm thinking a bright, almost bluish white, for the hub and spokes and red for the rim.

That red needs to extend into/replace your chrome belt line and grill. My opinion only, but I think that by doing that you would have a wickedly unique piece that works really well on the contrast.

I wanted to do the same concept on my Ti by extending the chrome accents to the grill, but after blacking out my wheels and such it became glaringly evident that the chrome would have to go.

Edit: Also, I alluded to going in a slightly different direction in a previous post. What I was going to attempt to do was lay the stripe through the plate area to give it a near continuous look. Seems how I am going monochromatic in the following weeks, maybe someone else wants to try it...

If you want to give it a go, I would recommend cutting out the portion where the elevation on the grill changes. This will give the plate area a recessed look, which I think would be more natural than a continuous line from one side of the grill to the other. Just an idea to rid that blank plate area.

Crap... I just saw a sterling gray hatch in for service at my dealer in Columbus apparently owned by someone else who did this. Wish I'd noticed this earlier, I would have taken a picture. It looked good next to mine but I also think they had a darker grille, which helped.

Yeah, I picked up the red pinstripe at Autozone for about $4. One roll was enough to do the whole grill with plenty to spare.

I started to do the mod, with my twist. I didn't finish it because I was using chrome pinstripe and it suddenly overwhelmed me. I think that if I went with something a little more subdued like silver that it would have stayed and I would have finished it. I'm pretty sure after my plasti-dip sessions that I am going monochromatic, so I probably won't do this mod again unless I can find stripe that will match the paint pretty closely.

Or maybe this mod, but inverted, with SGM paint...

Oooh I love this mod! I have the black and I always thought there needed to be something to break it up. Is this easy enough for someone who's never done decal work before to do?

Yup.

I did it the weekend after I picked up my car and I'd never done anything like it before.

Only advice - have patience. It's going to take a couple hours to do it right, unless you're a professional detailer. Worth the time to do a good job, in my opinion.
