This is exactly the problem. Small design oversight on Ford's part IMO. We want to be able to pause/mute without taking our hands off the wheel. (MFT misses that point too.) They should have replaced the "M"ode button on the wheel with a pause/mute button. Put the M button somewhere else if they want, but this really doesn't need to be on the wheel at all. Pause/Mute is far more important there.

+1.. MFT pause play next previous buttons only work about 1 in 3 drives in BT audio... Always have to use the controls on my phone itself.

A mute button would have been much nicer than the completely pointless Mode button in the center of the steering wheel audio controls... Who wants to cycle through every possible audio source to find the one they want? Would probably crash MFT anyways. A mute button would have made more sense... Or how about this: assign one of the old abandoned Favorite buttons to mute.... And perhaps the other one to Master Reset...

Oh, and turning it off is a bad idea on BT audio because it gets all messed up when you go to turn it on again. Fine for radio and CD though, I suppose.

Ford seemed to have missed A LOT of small things like that. Separately, they're no big deal. But when added up they become a big over site

Correction... you USED to be able to pause very easily.

When the Favorites buttons were assignable (pre-3.0) it was easy to map Play/Pause to one of them.

Alas, what Ford originally giveth, Ford taketh away.

On my SE I use the OK button on the right side of the steering wheel to change to Line In when in Radio mode. Effectively muting since there is no input at the time. Of course if you are using Line In it will just change to whatever radio station you left it on but I don't use Line In that much so it works great 90% of the time. Just sayin'.

I am used to have the mute button in my last car too. Now I just use the power on/off button right below the CD slot.

I just got a Focus ST and this was one of the first things that bothered me (I've aready hit it several times by accident when trying to raise the volume). I wish I could reassign the Mode button to be pause/play for all audio. Ford needs to replace whomever came up with the button assignments and find someone competent.
