The reason that the techs can't find it is that it seems to be he suspension but it's related to he suspension. I'm getting my wireless clip on mic on Friday. It's not under the car within about 18 inches of the wheel either. (that is as far as I cold reach with my stethoscope while laying next the car.

Right now i am leaning toward the transmission linkage being the rattle, but it's just two parts rattling. The exhaust system is also very suspicious. Now that I know (or suspect) that it's not structural, he noise bothers me less and less. Plus it goes away after the car is totally hot. Mine does anyway:)

Mine gets worse with warmer temperatures, unfortunately.

I personally haven't noticed a correlation to heat or drive time. It does seem a bit (not much) louder when there's passengers or items in the trunk.

I've now had the following parts replaced:

1. Front springs
2. CV Joint
3. Right front engine mount
4. Front struts

Noise is still there. I'm far from an auto mechanics expert but wouldn't it make sense for this to be suspension related (assuming we're all hearing the same thing)? Mine is distinctly more of a creak than a rattle. I only hear it when I have passengers and the heavier the load, the more pronounced the creak is. The only time I can reproduce it when I'm solo is when I go over speed bumps. That would explain why the first time I brought the car in for this issue, the tech couldn't replicate the noise. This is beyond frustrating. I should have kept my Jetta.

I'd say that is a possibility.

Just got a call from my Service Manager that all the parts he was waiting on are in. My car is scheduled for whats likely going to be a futile waste of time but nonetheless they scheduled my install for Monday.

Struts, Bearings, etc etc.

mine does get worst with heat (over 20C/70F). Perfect example, dropped my gf at the bus stop this morning, it was 57F and there was NO noise at all, on the same exact route I take every morning, while last week it was near 78F and it was clunking as hell.

The only thing that I can think of that would be effected by hot and cold in the front suspension would be the shocks right? Assuming their Fluid based shocks and not gas.

Strange!

I haven't gone through all 30 pages of this thread, but does anyone recall someone having their shocks changed? I've seen struts, cv joints, bearings, links, etc...

The Focus has a MacPherson strut front suspension design. There are no front shocks. Struts do the job that shocks would do on a separate coil spring/shock setup.
