The 2012 Se hatchback I got in nov 2011 had great numbers, 7.5L/100km for a daily commute from southshore Montreal to Cremazie/Metroplitain hwy intersection...That was great and less than my previous 2007 Outlander V6 (1L/100km) But since I changed from the SE Hatchback to the SEL sedan, I have crappy numbers like 8.5L/100km (27.3 Gal) I am far from impressed. I use the reg Esso and/or the reg Shell fuel. The best I could do with this sedan was 7.8L/100 at 100/Kph on highway 30 from St-Constant to Varenne and back, no city. At that speed I was like an obstacle on the highway, so I did this early last saturday morning. Going from St-Constant to Varenne, I had the wind in my back and got about 6.7L/100. But comming back from Varenne to St-Constant I had the wind comming in and dropped to 7.8. I have the 16" OEM mags on at the moment. When I got those great numbers with the SE hatchback, I was going tru the Jacques Cartier bridge pileup twice a day, with winter tires on. Go figure... |

Just checking in. We have been getting around 35mpg in mixed driving conditions, a little more highway than stop-n-go. I reset the computer and was averaging 37mpg while the wife was out of town. Its back down to 35 now, she has more stop and go than I do on my commute.
if you are able to travel at 55mph or less and keep your speed constant, you can meet or exceed 40mpg pretty easily, even if you dont have the sfe model. |

Definitely AVOID ESSO's gas (at least here in Ontario/Quebec). The absolute worst fuel economy on my Ti has been with their gas.
Try one of the others like Shell/Ultramar (although I primarily use Petro-Canada and Pioneer (not sure who supplies them) here in Ottawa). |

My weekly commute is 70% highway and 30% city. I'm only seeing about an average of 32 mpg. It's a lot better than the previous Explorer at 17, but I was still expecting to see more. I've driven the fool out of my car and am at about 8K miles, so I know I'm past the break in. Maybe the transmission flash will help? I'll remain hopeful anyways.

I don't drive the highway much, so I would say my driving is 80% city, 20% highway.
I was getting 27 mpg city. Now, I'm getting 32 in the city with a K&N air filter installed. Best $35 ever. I'm nearing 390 miles to a tank of gas solely off driving in the city. Yes, it's also a manual. |

K&N: "A lot of exaggerated claims are made in the marketplace by products claiming to improve gas mileage. K&N makes no general fuel economy claims, however we encourage you to try our air filter for yourself. Keeping air filter restriction as low as possible can be an important tool, among others, for maintaining high mileage." |

You are talking a drop in filter right, not an air box replacement?

I just got 42.3 MPG on a 433.3 mile tank. My car is not an SFE, and does not have active shutters. Gauge was estimating 42.8 MPG. I heard the tank getting near full, so I do not think that I underfilled.
Speeds of mostly 40-60 for the entire tank (only ~10 miles of interstate driving). Some city driving but mostly very early in the morning. AC was running for ~200 of those miles. The estimated fuel remaining was saying that I may have been able to cross 500 miles on the tank, but it was too close to try for that mark.
