OK, went in last evening to have the caliper replaced since they didn't have the part when I was there last Sat getting the rest of the stuff done. Talked to the service dept and told them the "wipe/clean install" did nothing and I didn't think it was really a wipe since I still had old info in there that shouldn't have been after it was completed. They said they wanted to try it again a little differently since I was there anyway. So they got the wipe/reinstall started and went to the parts dept to get the caliper. Came out and informed me that though I needed a right rear caliper, the parts dept ordered a left rear caliper (it was written up correctly on the work order). Well, they already started the wipe so I was stuck there until that and the reinstall was done. 2 1/2 hours and I still have to go back next week and get the caliper replaced.
Needless to say, their new install attempt did nothing and info was still in the system, not wiped. I get to go back next week for the caliper and have to leave my car for a couple of days (they are giving me a loaner) because they are going to replace the APIM as well. As I have said multiple times, "upgrade" usually implies you are going to get something more or better and at this point I am not asking for that, I have now spent a lot of time and multiple trips to the dealer just in an attempt to get the performance back UP to the level it was before being upgraded. |

Now, I've had the car all of 12 hours, so I'm not saying any of these issues won't arise. But I'm very happy so far! The car drives great and sounds great. Good luck to you, hopefully your issues get resolved. |

For all the extremely annoying and buggy things I've encountered with MFT (that absolutely need to be addressed by Ford) that doesn't change the fact that I'm still happy with the car overall. It drives and handles awesome, better than anything else in its class in my opinion.
If they ever get around to figuring out all the techno-wizardry inside these things, this car will be completely unbeatable. Quote:

Sorry you're stuck in the same situation. I wish I could offer something helpful, but yeah, it is what it is.

It's still ugly as a mud-rail fence, and my favourites buttons on the steering wheel are still useless, and I have less than zero confidence it will continue to work, and I haven't yet mustered the courage to try streaming via Bluetooth. Hooray for customer satisfaction!

Example, after the master reset and letting the index/BVC process complete yet again I said "Play Song Hello". I got seven screens (which of course means seven times of saying "None of those") of four songs each and every one, with the exception of one song on either the third or fourth screen, started with the letter "C". The one exception started with the letter "V". Why? What about the word "Hello" makes this POS want to shove 27 songs at me that start with the letter "C" and one song that starts with the letter "V" as possible options? When I first installed the new version I was furious at the "uglification" and the removal of features/functions but now that I have had more time with it installed I am the point where I am willing to accept that part of it if it can just get back to working as well as it did before and it sucks to have to feel that way. I have been upgraded and all I want as a result of being upgraded is to get it back to functioning as well as it did before being upgraded. That seems so wrong! I will try the replacement APIM next week I guess and if it still sucks, like I said, I don't know what to do at that point. |

Nope. Unfortunately, you are only seeing the complaints of a (quite vocal) but select few. For many, including myself, I have GREAT results with the v3 upgrade and practically no issues. I have had the radio turn on after a phone call if it were off prior, but aside from that, it's been rock solid.

OK, I might be on to something here. My music voice commands have been completely broken since the update and as I said in other posts, I have a gut feeling the old info was never truly wiped out during the update process and a new index was writing over residual info from the old index and confusing the system. Idea popped into my head Saturday night. Leapt out of my chair and bolted for the driveway (the rather abrupt nature of this scared the hell out of my wife as we were just sitting there calmly and quitely watching TV). Anyhow, ran out to the car, pulled the iPod and Nav card and started a Master Reset.
While the reset was taking place I went back in, grabbed an old jump drive, wiped it out and reformatted it. I then threw two of my son's albums (by one artist) on there. Music that has never been on my iPod or in my car on either version of MFT. It took about 10-12 seconds to index/build voice commands (28 songs on two albums by one artist so I didn't really expect it take that long). After it was done, I yanked the drive and performed another Master Reset. Upon completion of the second reset I put my iPod back in. The good sign was that it significantly longer to index/build voice commands (about twice as long as it took after the update). When it was done, I sat out there for about half an hour giving it "Play Song" voice commands. Still getting choices in a lot of cases but the difference was that instead of my usual screen after screen of four songs that made no sense, it more often than not gave me only two choices, one being the song I said, and even the other one I could see how the system could make think it sounded like the one I said instead of the page after page of nonsense I used to get, none of which sound even close. Even more encouraging was the fact that after a while I would go back to songs I first started telling it to play and it would nail them first time even though 15-20 minutes earlier it was giving a choice of two. So....anyone having problems with their music voice commands after the update here is something to try. While still not quite as accurate as it was for me on V2.11 it is much much better. Of course, like all things MFT I want to observe it over time but so far, so good. I'm supposed to drop it off tomorrow for a caliper replacement and a new APIM. Don't know if I need the new APIM now or if I should just let them do it. |

Right on, Copernicum, excellent advice ... my MFT started giving me "indexing device" notifications a few weeks ago, even though the USB drive containing my music hadn't been moved form it's slot for over a month.
I thought it strange and went through the hassle of a master reset (hassle because of having to re-pair phones but great because it exists as a trouble shooting option) and voila, voice commands back on line and good to go!

Very interesting, Copernicum - definitely another wrinkle worth exploring.
I actually haven't had voice command issues since the update, just a slew of other fun quirks and bugs. Most recently (over the holiday weekend) my car has started switching to my iPod every time I climb in, even though I haven't been listening to it when I got out of the car. I've been in either FM or Bluetooth when shutting the car off and, for the past few days, when I start it it initially starts on the last-used source but then switches to USB/iPod within 5 seconds of starting the car. Odd...
