I have 995 miles and I have not been able to get over 30MPG yet... average so far in the city is 20-24mpg and when I add more highway driving at steady speed my best was 28mpg. Still sucks. I have the trophee for smooth driving and speed in the ECO console. I just got past the "break in" period, hopefully these numbers will go up.

It seems that many of the folks reporting the lower mpg numbers are from Canada and I have to wonder if it isn't a difference in the gas. Do you know what percentage of ethanol you are running? What octane?

Obviously city an stop-n-go driving are bad for mpg but something tells me its more than that...

I'm always filling up at Esso, regular unleaded octane 87. I don't believe they have any Ethanol mix there.

You bring up a good point about having worst mpg north of the border. I've opened up an account at Fuelly.com and started monitoring other Focus and I'm completely off range, but the ones who report the worst MPG's are all located in Canada... hmmm!

My first 2 tanks were avering at 17-19mpg... which was worst than my 260HP V6 SUV!

I'm planning my first 100% highway trip this weekend, can't wait to see!

My best was 44.6 MPG straight highway driving at 55MPH ~250 miles

I have about 2600 miles total. Purchased March 24th

WOW, 17-19mpg -- that's F150 territory...

Is there anything different about the cars bound for Canada other than DRL's and the default units (m/km, gal/l)?

I'd be very interested in the mileage you get with 100% highway driving.

I know... it's bad! I may have a F150 trapped in the wrong body!

yup DRL's is pretty much the only difference and the mile vs km! I use the Fuelly.com dashboard to track my fuel efficiency and I'm headed for my 6th fill-up in tomorrow, and so far my trip computer indicates 24.8MPG (which is about 90% city driving).

The dealer blames it on the infamous "break-in" period set at 1600km (995miles), and I'm now just a little over that. I see a bunch of other Foci reporting back incredible mileage with their 1st fill up via Fuelly.com, I'm jealous.

I've stopped using Esso. Was getting 2L/100KM worse with their fuel. Read the pump labels, it will tell you what the Ethanol blend is (if any). For example, I think it's Shell that states regular contains 10%, mid contains 5% and premium contains 0.

Steady highway driving yields about 6.5 L/100KM

where do you go for gas? I have to admit, the only reason why I go to Esso is because I'm addicted to aeroplan miles, which triples when I use my credit card! I have Ultramar & Shell nearby...

Change the display units to mile/gallon.
Take a trip to Toronto, Ottawa, or Quebec City.
Reset the mpg readout as soon as you enter the HWY.
Drive 115kph or less.
I guarantee you 35mpg or more.
This should set your mind at ease.

You cannot live in the city yet expect great fuel economy. You need to be in top gear 100% of the time for great mpg.
