It seems that many of the folks reporting the lower mpg numbers are from Canada and I have to wonder if it isn't a difference in the gas. Do you know what percentage of ethanol you are running? What octane?
Obviously city an stop-n-go driving are bad for mpg but something tells me its more than that... Brian |

You bring up a good point about having worst mpg north of the border. I've opened up an account at Fuelly.com and started monitoring other Focus and I'm completely off range, but the ones who report the worst MPG's are all located in Canada... hmmm! My first 2 tanks were avering at 17-19mpg... which was worst than my 260HP V6 SUV! I'm planning my first 100% highway trip this weekend, can't wait to see! |

Is there anything different about the cars bound for Canada other than DRL's and the default units (m/km, gal/l)? I'd be very interested in the mileage you get with 100% highway driving. Brian |

yup DRL's is pretty much the only difference and the mile vs km! I use the Fuelly.com dashboard to track my fuel efficiency and I'm headed for my 6th fill-up in tomorrow, and so far my trip computer indicates 24.8MPG (which is about 90% city driving). The dealer blames it on the infamous "break-in" period set at 1600km (995miles), and I'm now just a little over that. I see a bunch of other Foci reporting back incredible mileage with their 1st fill up via Fuelly.com, I'm jealous. |

Steady highway driving yields about 6.5 L/100KM

where do you go for gas? I have to admit, the only reason why I go to Esso is because I'm addicted to aeroplan miles, which triples when I use my credit card! I have Ultramar & Shell nearby...

Change the display units to mile/gallon.
Take a trip to Toronto, Ottawa, or Quebec City. Reset the mpg readout as soon as you enter the HWY. Drive 115kph or less. I guarantee you 35mpg or more. This should set your mind at ease. You cannot live in the city yet expect great fuel economy. You need to be in top gear 100% of the time for great mpg. |
