2012 Focus custom CAI, now getting code 2227 MAP sensor

Hi all, I recently removed the stock airbox, bought a couple of silicone adapters and a cone filter, and made my own CAI. I am still using the stock MAF and rubber accordian tube piece from the throttle body to the MAF, the MAF is in the stock location and hasn't been rotated (you can't, it's keyed to the rubber elbow that connects to the throttle body). It sounds awesome, almost like a boxer motor. Not really noticeable until you get into it, but at WOT it's great. Haven't gotten any data on MPG increase and the butt dyno says it pulls harder but everyone knows how accurate those are.

Anyway, the problem is I've been getting a check engine light with the code P2227 MAP sensor voltage. I clear the code and it comes back sometimes, sometimes it goes away. The car seems to run fine. I've taken off the MAF and cleaned it with MAF sensor spray and it didn't seem to help. Any suggestions? I will probably put back the stock airbox and see if the code goes away, I'm sure it will. Just don't understand why it would pop up in the first place.

Thanks,
Anonymous 2012 Focus Driver

did you pop off the neg battery cable when you installed it to let the ecu relearn?

popping off that negative battery cable sucks, I can't even see it. They placed that battery in a terrible spot..

can you just pop off the positive cable instead? or is that bad for it?

I did remove the positive cable from the battery when doing the original install. I have also since added an amp + sub so I had to remove the positive cable to do that. So I would bet it has been reset at least twice.

I wonder if it is the size of the filter. I used a cheap parts store filter that is actually smaller than the stock paper filter, maybe it is restricting flow so much it's causing a code? I might just remove the filter altogether and take it for a spin.

I also think it could be a resonance or mounting issue. The stock setup is pretty well damped and solidly mounted, while mine only has a single strap of aluminum stock holding it in place. Maybe the MAF needs to be very solidly mounted and isolated from vibration?

To pull the negative cable, you actually disconnect it from the car. The ground is located just behind the fuse box and has the post for jumper cables.

I currently have the same problem. I have the K&N Short Ram intake installed and recently got that code. The car seems to be getting "drowned" in air. I reset the code and the battery and haven't seen the code again but the car still isn't running completely right. I'm not sure what else I can do, I'm hoping to give it a couple of days/drives to re-evaluate the air/fuel mixture. Here's to hoping.
