As quickly as I can type. And I wasn't being 100% specific about the specific wheels featured in the package, but yes the premium package wheels literally end up as the new Titanium base wheels, but I was referring more to the size of the wheels + tires rather than the specific wheel design.

If I wanted the premium package the price difference might be slightly less, but the base SEL hatch with winter package was a much better deal for my particular situation than a loaded 2012 SE Sport DCT hatch, but it also was available in my preferred color choice, if I went with an SE it would likely have been either Sterling Grey Metallic, or Ingot Silver Metallic.

The car might have stickered for over 22k, but with the $2000 rebate $329 sync discount and the a/z plan price was around 18.4k before tax. I don't think the 2013 would be available as well equipped for as little money just yet either.

SE Hatch 19200 +$1095 for DCT + 2640 for the appearance package (which doesn't come with dual zone climate control unless you get the MFT package) etc....

Basically I wouldn't want to be pushed into MFT to get the nicer climate control system. I'm so glad I got mine before they did this.

Over $2,500 for SE Appearance Package. That is utterly gross and plain wrong. I was expecting more like $1500 for that package. The DATC/MyTouch is $1,500, just as I expected. Get a SE DCT with the two mentioned package and you actually beat (I repeat - beat) the base price of the Titanium. Add more options and you are in the sky!

With the Titanium, you get SE with 201A and DATC/MFT (no navigation) plus rear back up camera, chrome belt line, slightly upgraded interior, remote start for DCT Titaniums, and more without ticking off the option box.

Que Pasa Ford with the navigation with the SE DATC/MFT package, as well as pricing the loaded SE above the Titanium?

I was expecting the same thing. The SEL Premium package was $1395 and that gave you leather and 17's. Instead of rain sensing wipers, reverse sensing and auto dimming mirror with the Sel Prem you're getting ambient lighting, fog lamps, leather wheel & shifter, alarm, rear discs, overhead console, Sirius and spoiler with the SE Appearance. So those few extra features almost DOUBLES the price? Doesn't make sense.

That pricing scheme they have is stupid. I hope Ford sees the error of their ways and corrects this. Ford Focus sales are not too bad and the company needs to keep up the momentum and that is not the way to do it. I think that Ford wants to put more people in the Titanium.

I think that some posters were (rightfully) scared that Ford will rip customers one way or another when they discontinued the SEL. My personal opinion of Ford has gone down quite a bit.

I honestly think they're trying to move the Focus upmarket and differentiate it more, price-wise, from the Fiesta. For 2012, a Fiesta SES was virtually the same price as a Focus SE Sport. Sure, the Fiesta SES had leather, push-button start, and probably a few other baubles - but it was still a lot less car, IMO.

What's crazy is that the Sport Package that I ordered last week was $695, and the 17" black wheel upgrade was $495 ($1190 total). To equip the car the same way I would need the Appearance Package at $2530 and the Black Pack at $795 ($3325 total). So an increase in price of almost 300%, for what: leather + ambient lighting + black fog lamp surrounds, mirror caps, and spoiler. Am I missing anything else?

So for the car I want the price has gone up $240 similarly equipped 2013 SE vs. 2012 SEL. So, I get less car and less choice for more cash.

I do not think you are missing anything else. You are correct that Ford is trying to push the Focus upmarket. However, many people still think of Ford as a budget brand so I would say good luck with that.

One of the few bright things about the 2013's option list is that the SFE package is $95 (because you lose alloys for steels). Though if you get that package, you are limited on other options. Also a stripped down SYNC can be installed in the "S" for about $295 (or so).

Well, I guess the thinking is probably that more and more Americans are starting to see compacts as a viable alternative to larger cars (and even SUV's) and that, as in Europe, Ford is betting that consumers will pay more for a car in this segment with premium features. So with changing attitudes, and a subcompact like the Fiesta occupying the "econobox" role (albeit a pretty nice one with lots of premium features as well) Ford is free to charge a little more for the Focus.

I don't think it's a bad strategy per se, but I think if they want to creep the Focus upmarket they need to start offering some of the Euro options here as well. As it stands now, the Titanium doesn't have enough to differentiate itself from the volume model anymore. It should have an HID option, LED tails, and some of the other hi-tech options Euro buyers are offered. At least start exposing Americans to the idea and get them used to the notion of a premium Ford compact (actually, I think they've been doing that already with the 2012 Focus, but they should increase the quality with the price for 2013).

The focus can command higher prices simply because it's a higher class car compared to the competition.

They have every right to charge more, American cheapness be damned.
