2.3 head differences?
I made a post on FJ and didn't really get a real answer. What are the differences between the 2.3 head and the 08+ 2.0 head? Are the combustion chambers the same size? are the ports really that much better in the 2.3?what all needs to be done to run an earlier 2.3 head on a 08+ focus? I found a couple rebuilt 2.3 heads online and was thinking of running the crower springs-retainers and either the stg2 or stg2 turbo cams.

not sure about turbo. I want to fully decide before buying a single "performance" part.
rebuilt heads I've seen on ebay have stock everything with new seals how much more does the 2.3 flow? does anyone know? If I went n/a I was thinking a 2.3 head (if it does indeed flow better) and stg2 cams with springs+retainers

No shock to me no one over there could answer you
Yes the 2.3 head is a better head and out flows the 2.0 head , you need to run the 2.3 intake manifold , slightly more compression (surface the head) and cams and you will love the 2.3 head on your 2.0 Tom

thanks.
I can run the cossie style IM if I get a tune that would stop the ecu from looking for the tumbleflaps correct? Also, do I get the cams for the 2008+ 2.0 or the 2.3? I'm guessing the 08+ also, off topic but did you ever get the godspeed IM working? how much would you charge to clean it up, notch it to fit the 08+ and tap whatever provisions are missing?

I have the cosi knock off working on a few Foci with no issues , you will have to spend a little time with the knockoff but in my opinion well worth it

so what all needs to be done (out of the ordinary) to run a 2.3 head on a 08+ 2.0?

Before you do that, get a Tune from tom BEFORE anything else since he will retune each time you do upgrades and need it, You should do the other stuff before the heads. Like 2.5" Exaust to get the added air thru the engine with less resistance. The 2.3 head will not give the biggest bang for the buck in the short run, better off with all the easy bolt ons before that is needed to make the heads worth it.
Reinforce the engine. Rear Dogbone. so you have less twist, its cheap and easy to get the better feel of engine to ground. Exaust, cheap easy extra HP and installed in under 1 hour. Engine tune.. You will get more HP out of them 3 Upgrades then the heads will and you spend 1/3 the amount. Get a CAI, unless your going turbo that IMO is not worth it if its your daily driver. So Exaust, Tune, CAI and Dog Bone.. you now spent under $1000 and get 12 to 15 HP It will sound faster, feel faster and work more efficiant. Adding a head from a 2.3L requires SO much more and all I mentioned before you benifit from it. Like Cams, Intake, headers... I am sure I am missing something here and there but thats the gist of it... |

tom,
can I run the 2.3 head without a tune? I imagine since it flows better it might run a little leaner, but won't the ecu adapt? I know for ultimate power and if I go n/a I'll definetly need one after I/H/E, but I just want to get the biggest expense (head swap) out of the way first.
