I mis-spoke a bit about the engine needing to be running - the way you set it up and the way the window and headlight switch illumination works, they come on when the key is in ACC or RUN, not with key off or with the headlights switch.
Even then - even at night on my car the switch is easy to access and remember where it is and it only does one thing. For cruise, you have 4 functions (Resume, Set, Accel, Coast) on three switches, so it gets hard to remember which does what. (Although I figured out that coast does the same thing as Resume if the system is on and disengaged). I doubt I'd want to bother with modifying the Cruise buttons myself, but I'd be interested in reading what you come up with - or if someone else were selling lighted buttons. Thanks again! |

Actually the 00-04 and the 05-07 has the same button, one just has a triangle face and the other is round faced...
This is how I did mine, I drilled two small holes in the underside for the leads and glued the led in place. I put my resistor on a 22-24ga wire from an old AC adapter. ![]()

The link Tiger-Heli provided has a second way, perhaps easier, to do the window/door switches. The conversion above doesn't include the Trunk Button. There's probably one out there somewhere, but I never found a How-To for it on here nor FocalJet, nor elsewhere on the web, thus why I made one. As Sniper Focus shows, it's not much different And that way looks a lot easier.** When searching on FJ for this, I came across posts saying there are some with certain years (I don't know which) that can't be lit up? Like the car image is just paint and not translucent (similar to cruise controls). So I would just make sure yours can in fact have an LED. If not, you can probably just buy another one with the translucent piece, and use the old one for practice.

When I saw the pic at first I was like, how is the button lit up when the wires aren't connected?! But, then I saw the alligator clips, which are obviously providing the power. lol

The door lock switches have LED's in them from the factory but they are not powered. There was a thread on here explaining how to tie into the window switches for power, but the pictures and schematics got taken down - highly recommended mod, though. |
