I feel one of the most important things on the Focus stock ECU and that has saved 100`s of engines is the knock sensor , you cant get that for less then about 6500 on a stand alone , most standalone are MAP which sucks in my opinion , I tune standalones and have done about every kind out there this year alone even played with the new Pectel they are beta testing , I dont like any of them over a stock Focus ECU other then the ability to make changes on the fly
Yes standalones have gizmo`s and gadgets you cant have on a stock ECU but most of them are not needed to get the job done there just toys for people like inis to play with

And like stated he wants to use a piggy back not a standalone , as for my way or the hwy , not at all its my opinion from 1 of maybe 3 people on this Forum that tune as many cars with diff types of software that actually know what there talking about , its his money and his choise like everyone on here

Map is much more consistant then maf, but most standalones you can run either one, or both or multiple of both.

Map shows volumetric efficency of a engine, maf does not. You can also get knock sensors on most of the standalones under "6500" now. Sometimes you can run a ford knock sensor, some you have to run the standalones brand of knock sensor.

I'm not sure why aem is labeling this as a piggyback, if I recall it replaces the entire ecu.

Manufactures now a days seem to be using both MAP and MAF. Honda is one example.


In the OP case he should just tune using the stock ECU. It will meet all his needs and and be cheaper at the same time.

Not sure where you get MAP is more consistant , most standalone with MAP it works of hugh Vac spikes from MAP drops , or off the TPS which has nothing to do with the amount of fuel thats needed , I just looked at Haltech , Pectel , AEM , MBE which are a few of the most popular and none offer a knock sensor unless you go to there rece or pro kits which are VERY costly
To each there own , if a standalone is your thing its your money and do as you chose , people understimate the stock ECU and how powerfull they are and going to a standalone will make you no more power or TQ then the stock ECU with a good tuner

You can get the SCT prp self tuner to do your own tuning for I think 795.00 you cant get any standlone for that
