A tune is a must have IMO. Not only for the EGR delete but for the crap ton of drive ability it adds. My yellow focus gained a crap ton of low end tq when I added the tune. I still need to update it though once I get the money, it's been a while and I added some things.

well the nice thing about it too is that you'd have to advance timing where the exhaust gas would normally be introduced... advanced timing = win

What does the egr exactly do I am trying to stay carb legal and my cat just recently went out so I bought a hi flow one and I was tripping because it didn't have a bung for the tube do i was told they would just weld it in but if I don't need it that would prob be easier. And then just turn it off with a tune. Thanks guy.

Check with your local laws. You may still need to have the EGR hooked up so you can return the tune back to stock to pass emissions.

I think in CA if you have anything other than the oem cat you will not pass inspection. Not 100% sure but maybe another CA member can chime in. Otherwise like sleepy said check your laws.

The egr reduces combustion temperature to control emissions at anything over idle. If it burns too hot, you get NOx (oxides of nitrogen).

it does this by introducing exhaust gas through a passage on the intake manifold. the amount allowed in is determined by the computer.

Since exhaust gas doesn't burn as easily, it pretty much makes the engine run like "controlled crap" not noticeable because the computer knows what its doing.

Take that away and it could burn up the engine soon enough IF not reprogrammed.
