They'd have to be fools not to offer an automatic version. As much as I love manual transmissions, it would be stupid to exclude a huge market of drivers who either can't or don't like to drive stick. I sold off my Focus last year, but am seriously considering ditching my A3 TDI if the new ST drives as well as we all hope. I won't lie though, I love my current ability to choose between an automatic or paddle shifters. I can pick my gears when I'm driving, but still know the car will have a clutch left when my girlfriend borrows it. Wish I could say the same for my Jeep.

Anxious. Doubt I'll be able to afford one for a while, but I want to go give one a test drive/see what my options are.

Again, Ford is planning to put the dual clutch transmission in the ST. It will launch as manual only, but in 2013 they'll launch the DCT version. There was understandably more difficulty getting the more powerful ecoboost engine to work well with the DCT. It will happen though, just as the titanium eventually got a manual option.

My only hope is that if they do bring an auto to the ST, it has the paddle shifters.

It's more of a preference thing and having the ability to drive what you want readily available for sale in the said marketplace. "When in Rome...."
If I was purchasing a true performance car for performance purposes I would go for the stick. Not for a daily driver though.
As for your pic I will say that you'll never in a million years find me in the middle of that cluster of a hellhole.
By the way I'm American and have raced Moto-X since 1985 which leaves the "pansy" part out for me.
