If they are going to a substantially smaller platform, I suspect it will be available in a hatch model or "fastback" I guess. I think it will retain much of its retro styling with the first iteration and gradually phase out. Just like the evolution of the classic mustangs to the sn-95's. Just like clothes, all fashion seems to repeat itself.

Anyway, we can guess all we want but we won't see anything for at least 3 years.

I think the current 2013 Mustang is the best-looking Mustang I've seen in years. Ford got the "retro" thing down better than Dodge and Chevy... it's retro but still has it's own style, while the Challenger and Camaro attempt to carbon copy their older versions.

I wouldn't mind a modern, completely new style of Mustang though. But I do hope that article is wrong in stating it could have a hybrid powertrain. Please.

I think it needs to have some of the characteristics of the original Mustang or it's gonna ruin it for me. I mean it is gonna be the 50th anniversary, Ford's gonna have a tall order to fill here in North America or a lot of people are gonna be disappointed.

But on the note of reducing weight, I agree. And the 4 cylinder turbo, hmmm I'll have to wait and see what I think of it first.

It was annouced in Europe the Mustang would come to Europe about 7-8 months ago. RUMOR is that it will only have V6 and EB motor options.

Posted via FF Mobile I know for sure Ford will not disappoint with the 50th anniversary mustang. It will still be a mustang, but they have already started the transition to a great affordable sports car. As far as throwing in some european flare, if they do it like they did with the new SRT Viper...Im all for it. I was just at the NY Autoshow yesterday, god what a sexy car. If I had it, my money would be put down for one immediatly. Freaking beautiful.

They last sold the Mustang in Australia 2004. The had a Belgium factory for Mustangs in the 1960's. The next Camaro is getting a diet. If you want a V8 anything from Ford, it looks like you'd have to buy an F or a Mustang. I don't know what would happen if the Focus ST and future SVO Mustang were close to the same price. They could both?,, be big sellers. I'm 51 and the V8 has become a wealthy guys engine. You used to get a V8 in anything. Compact, midsize fullsize cars etc. Chris

Just to clarify, in no way do I think a possible ecoboost Mustang would be considered the performance model from ford. I believe they would use it to get better mpg while maintaining a respectable power level to replace the large v6 that they use now. V6's are the bread and butter of muscle cars, but if they replace them with a turbo four, well, the aftermarket would go nuts on it just like the v8. Especially if the car could handle corners and launch well.

Though, I do love turbo power ;)

Anybody remember the Mustang SVO from the eighties? It could run with the 5.0's and handle like a Porsche, 2.3 turbo FTW! It also had the distinction of being the first Mustang available with four wheel disk brakes IIRC.

Why not ? Don't you remember the SVO Mustangs of the 80's ?
