Sounds like you should just pay it and shop for better insurance. Call Progressive and ask for a quote and mention that you have one speeding ticket 4 years ago, and one that just happened. I can almost guarantee your new rate will be less than you are paying now.

When I changed my policy (2 cars & 2 drivers) I ended up saving $100/month.

Thats what I love about living on the north shore. I dont think I pass by more than 1 speed trap a month. In my hometown (Lynn), they NEVER have speed traps, as they are busy stopping murders, drug deals and robberies.

1. is there a court date for the ticket?
2.if you go to court for the ticket and the cop is not there you can try and fight it, which you would be the only witness to the incident since the cop isn't there, just make up a good heartfelt story how it wasn't you/your fault
3. never use the excuse I was going with the flow of traffic, I wasn't paying attention to the speed limit signs etc
4.if you haven't been ticketed in over a year(VARIES FOR STATES)you can plead guilty and ask the judge for court supervision/take a defensive driving class to keep the ticket off your record

Unfortunetely, the options in MA are limited. There is no defensive driving class, and the Cop does not need to be there for the hearing. I dont think the insurance will change that much. Last month my wife hit a bollard at the gas station and caused $1200 damage to her car. We filed a claim with Progressive and our rates are going up "only" $40/month. I would think a speeding ticket would be less.

Cops don't have to show up for these hearings anymore...All they need is a written statement from the cop who issue your citation to find you guilty...Appealing will only buy you time to pay..Do the crime, pay the fine.
