Man, no wonder techs don't want to do this. I don't know how you do that around here without having a test track of some kind. Maybe that's doable on a Saturday around here but that's it.

So every time the battery is disconnected or replaced this has to be done? I doubt it.

I got a stupid question. How on earth can one do the drive steps? When I went to Pines Ford Lincoln in Pembroke Pines, FL to get my transmission reflashed, they tested the transmission in the parking lot. The dealer is located at least several miles away from either I-75, or the Florida Turnpike.

My question is that is there an alternative method? Not all Ford dealers are located close to the highway. I can not do this with the FHP littered highways, or at least without attracting suspicion from other motorists.

Like DBrim said, it is no wonder service techs do not want to do this. Why risk possible damage to the customers vehicle.

I got my transmission updated at Maroone Ford in Ft Lauderdale and they told me they drove out to 95.

I guess this was a pain for the guy doing it but at least my shit is fixed now.

This explains why some have issues or start having worse issues post flash... This sounds like mission impossible... - guess one would need to find a dealer in the middle of nowhere that might perhaps be able to perfom above..

My dealer was in the middle of nowhere so hopefully they were able to do this pretty closely - though it was the first 12-1-4 update they did.

My car had roughly 20 more miles on it when I picked it up after the reflash.

Anybody know what would happen if you replaced the battery (or disconnected it then reconnected) and did not perform ANY of these 4 steps?

Speaking out of my a$$ here, but I'm positive that there's a huge difference between disconnecting the battery and wiping the current software to install updated software.

That makes sense.
I checked the owner's manual, and it says if the battery is disconnected that you will need to reset memory features. It does not say anything about going through any exercise for the transmission.
