Pulse Damper
What exactly is the function of the pulse damper on the fuel rail?

Old thread, but this never got answered (that I can see), and I have a related question:
http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/sl-...el-damper.html I'm having an odd issue with my 2002 Ford Focus SE Zetec automatic 120,000 miles. The car has a sound similar to a marble rolling around or a pulley bearing intermittently. It is louder and easier to hear inside the car, but definitely sounds like it is coming from under the hood. Usually hear is while driving, but can hear it at idle as well. Sometimes goes away and then comes back when you rev the engine. A mechanic checked it by listening with a screwdriver held to his ear and thought the sound matched pulses on the fuel rail and suggested the fuel pressure dampener. The dampener is around $100, and I know they sometimes (especially on Mazda's) fail and cause a fuel leak, or fail closed and cause stalling/hard starting. If mine failed, it would have failed open, but I'm leary of spending $100 if that doesn't solve the problem. Any easy way to troubleshoot this and/or any idea what else the problem could be? Thanks in advance!!! |

I would get a 4-5 foot hose (garden hose) and listen around for the noise much much better then a screwdriver , narrow down the noise and then go from there , I doubt it would be the dampener
