That's interesting, because I've taken my Focus to 2 different Ford service shops and both of them told me that they weren't able to turn them on. The first shop didn't go into a lot of detail about what they tried to do, but they just told me that that they couldn't do it. The second shop I took my car to weren't as vague about what they had tried to do. They said that they had seen the option to turn them on, and when they tried to do that it spit out an error.

They had then told me they put in a call to Detroit to consult with them about what the issue might be, and they came back saying that the ability to enable DRL had to be set up at the factory. The service guy who was telling me this said that it's most likely because I don't have the correct module installed, but he wasn't too sure about that. My Focus wasn't ordered as a fleet vehicle, so that makes sense. However, when you (03rubicon) said that you were able to turn them on, that got my attention! Was your car built as a fleet purchase? If it was, then you may have this module that makes it possible to turn on your DRL without your IDS spitting out an error. Were you able to verify that the DRL were in fact working by doing a light check when you had turned them on? Any more details about what you had done would be greatly appreciated! :-)

BTW, I wonder where I can get a hold of an IDS in order so I can see for myself how it works...

I highly doubt that my focus was ordered as a fleet vehicle (SE Hatchback sport package, with a 5 speed manual trans). The dealer I work at dealer traded it in from another dealer so im pretty sure it wasnt special ordered for anyone or any fleet. I can say changing the parameters in this 12 Focus was much different then changing them in older ford vehicles. The DRL are working, I didnt look to see if any of the other exterior lights were on on when the DRL are on. While I was messing around with it, I also turned the beltminder off and changed the fog light setup so they will stay on with the highbeams. Those 2 changes are also working.

I was wondering if you can do something for me... Can you plug in the VIN of your Focus into this website?

Check out the results, and make sure you pull down the "minor features" list, and see if you can find what it says about "Daytime Running Lamps." What shows up when I pull up the data from the VIN of my car is this:

Less Daytime Running Lamps

That makes sense because it wasn't a fleet vehicle. I was curious what the details of your Focus shows concerning DRL.

Be careful with the BCM. It is connected to everything.
Copy/paste from the service manual:

NOTE: Do not change Car Configuration Parameters except those listed below.

•Seat belt warning ( Belt-Minder® )
•English/Metric
•Language
•Courtesy wipe after wash
•Rear reverse gear wipe

Im not to worried about it, but i can understand the note they put in the shop manual. There are alot of things in there that you could change and really mess things up if you dont know what your doing. I, unfortunalty have become very good at doing things like this with these cars and trucks at our shop, so i get stuck with all of the "interesting" problems .

Like I said in the other reply, I get stuck with most of the "interesting" problems at our shop and am no stranger to having to change parameters in these cars and trucks to add or remove systems that customers want/need or dont want/dont need. Although it was different then older vehicles, it still was not to hard to figure out.
