bad rear brakes on 2012

Both my rear rotors are wearing like crazy, Fronts seem fine and no grinding noise from the brakes, I'm taking it in to have them check it out and hopfully fix this problem, I'll keep in touch!

When you take the Focus to your dealer, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can get this escalated to the Customer Service Manager for your area.

went to the dealer and they needed to order parts but said they would have to turn the rotors down instead of replacing them with new ones, Don't like tis one bit, If I ahve a brake job down the line I will have to buy rotors myself and with only 6300 miles on the car I think they should replace them with new, What do you guys think?

I can't say what it is without seeing it. I've seen debris- hard spots- in pads cause grinding. In that case, I'd say it's ok to turn the rotors and replace the pads. If the rotors were the problem, then those would have to be replaced. Like I said, it could go either way. If it's a problem, it will probably be a problem under warranty. Don't always assume the worst, if enough damage was done, then you would be likely to end up with a brake job under warranty due to the history. Brakes on these cars last longer than anything else I've ever seen- my fronts went over 60k miles, and would've probably gone 80k+. I changed them for a larger pad/rotor. Typically brakes should last about half that. Another scenario is that it was just a hard spot in the pads, the rotors can be easily smoothed out, and you'll never hear anything else in 80k miles.

I agree with you, they should replace them. Ford warranty does not allow replacement of rotors unless they are not able to machined. The only reasons they say rotors can't be machined is if they are under the minimum thickness spec or will be under the spec after they have been machined for this repair, if a caliper has seized and has caused the brakes to go metal to metal or if the rotors are absolutely damaged beyond repair. If you are unhappy with the repair, I would contact ford customer service and see if they can help.

FWIW, with unusual rear wear the first culprit I'd look at is E-Brake release, either a mechanical issue or accidental partial engagement when you (or another driver) thought it was released....

I haven't use the e-brake since I got the car! didn't park on a hill or incline and made sure the brake was released all the way down and its just me driving the car.

Well, you SHOULD use it occasionally, or someday when you need it it won't work!

And notice the OTHER common culprit, a mechanical issue causing it to drag....

BOTH are more common than defective pads or rotors.... Not that it COULDN'T happen, I just haven't seen a case yet....

( I always like to hear a reason for a failure, even if it's fixed under warranty...)
