Just an FYI. Yes, the market determines the price. But what goes into the determination?

(Before I go any further, this is not an attempt to justify the price, just the facts. Also, if you would never pay $450 for a grill, that's nice. While I get you do not value the grill as some others do, it really only matters to the buyer, who is obviously not you.)

This gill was in very high demand back in the early days but always short supply. Being Euro, and made in Germany, it was a rare part to see here in the states. If you know anything about the early days of the Focus enthusiasts on line, many good parts came from Europe, whether it be OEM Ford or aftermarket, like this Hofle grill, and they all were rare to see here in the USA.

Now this grill has been discontinued for years now. Since being discontinued, the true rarity here in the USA and the subsequent sales in internet forum classifieds have resulted in rising prices for this item. High demand + almost non-existent supply = high price.

As to quality, guaranteed it is better than any knockoff, if anything due to fitment. The metal knockoff's have rounded upper corners, leaving open gaps at the upper edges. The Hofele fits tight across the top and into the corners leaving no gaps. The Hofele is also a heavy steel grill not likely to incur damage from typical road grit.

So to begin with, this is not your typical grill by far. Yes, it demands a high price, but with it comes the rarity, the quality, and the fitment. To some people, this is important and defines what they want in a part.

On the flip side, there is no downside on return on investment. Used, new, they all sell in the same range. Trade in your Focus, sell you grill, get your money back. Few parts have equal or better resale value than their purchase price.

This grill has everything any die hard Focus enthusiast would want in a part. High quality, great looks, and ROI. The Euro/ rare factor is always debatable, but in the reality of the market, it plays a huge part and is inescapable.

So this isn't "just a grill". Sorry, but if you want to debate that way, all wheels are "just round" too. That simplistic of a point of view is irrelevant to the discussion. If it is just too expensive a purchase for you, understandable, but no need to hate because of it either. Not all people hate b/c they can't afford prices, but some do, so if you are one, it is sorely misdirected.

In my book, this grill is a win-win for the discerning Focus enthusiast and that is my opinion. The facts however are the facts.

Some things are better left unsaid.

I thought that there are rules in place to prevent this stuff from happening to posters?

Not trying to bash the OP.. cuz everyone sells these things for a stupid amount. Lol.

I guess I just don't get the hype.

You are correct. There are rules in place to prevent posts like the one made by WiscoZx3. Perhaps he is unaware of the rules, chose to ignore them, or did not think his post fell under the rules. Whatever the case, here is the one rule in particular that applies here (just to put everyone on the same page):

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/announcement.php?a=4

Quote:
6)No Buyer or Seller Harassments:
If you do not agree with a seller's asking price then do not buy from them. We welcome fair offers but will not tolerate any comments that is considered harassment in nature. We also ask that you refrain from making any off-topic comments that are of no relation to the transaction. Members who violate this policy will have their access to the Buy-Sell-Trade forum revoked.
This statement assuredly qualifies as an infraction of the forum rules:

However innocuous the intent of mentioning an opinion may be, in this forum there are rules for very good reasons.

In here, sellers are not called out for pricing and buyers are not to be ridiculed. If there were no decorum in this forum, sellers would get haggled and buyers opined upon which would do a huge disservice to the community as the classifieds help the community a ton. If people are dissuaded to post, why have a forum....hence the rules for the betterment of the community .

My question is why does everyone care the item is already sold and this thread is completely useless, I am surprised the moderators hasn't locked this yet
