For anyone who drives a bit more spiritedly they are pretty terrible and during the winter they are even worse. But then again anyone who does drive their car in any other way than just a typically commuter, usually puts dedicated summer tires on their cars with winter tires if needed. I plan on swapping my tires pretty soon, I just couldn't justify scraping brand new tires no matter how much I didn't like them.

I drive very spiritedly, and I find them to be just as good in the winter as my old BFGs for turning, and my old Potenzas as well. If you are pushing the Conti's past their level of adhesion, you are driving too fast or agressively for the street, period.

LOL contis... I love my Michelin Pilot Sport 3's! Probably not going to love them as much when it's time to replace them, but since I'm switching between summer and winter wheels, the PS3s should last me a few years. Now I just can't wait to put them back on, winter tires are mushy...

Just so its clear, its not the brand your unhappy with? its the particular tire right? as has been stated, continentals are used on many high performance cars, which the focus is not, yet...

Agreed. The stock Contis on my wife's Taurus had plenty of tread left at 41,000 miles. Those I think were ContiTouringContact instead of ContiProContact, but very similar tires and I expect the Focus's contis to last to at least 40k.

There's another thread I started on "Who's Got the Most Miles" and IIRC a couple folks posted about reasonable Conti wear at 20k+ miles.

If your's are done at 10-15k miles, look to your driving style as the primary culprit.

I'm not sure why you would want to buy a tire based on the tread design.

If I did need to replace the stock tires, I would go with the Conti ExtremeContact DW.

I have these in 205/45r17 on my BMW and love them! I would highly recommend this tire to anyone who lives outside of snow areas.
