Daytime running lights (DRL)

I went to my local dealer and they enabled it right away. I came back a month later to have them DISABLE it and they haven't been able to do it.

I bought a Focus Titanium in New Jersey. It didn't have DRLs. Since they're mandatory in Canada, I stopped at a Ford dealer in Niagara Falls, NY and had them turned on. I'm sure they have everything they need for DRLs, it just has to be turned on in the ECU. A decent dealership should know this.

I agree, they should know this! It's just plain weird that this is even an issue to begin with. Maybe I need to visit some of the other dealerships around here and find one which actually has a clue! I just wonder which one would be willing to do this for me...

Driver with DRL heads out just after dark, forgets to turn on the ACTUAL headlights due to there DRL's and is going down the freeway. Trucks and cars have a harder time seeing them from a distance with no tail lights.

DRL's dont work like that at all....Canada has had them mandated by law for close to 20 yrs....

I saw a blaze yellow with aftermarket LED DRLs, TOO BRIGHT, they overpowerd the whole front of the car. The blazing DRL's halo of light even blocked the view of the side "grills" in the bumper, and it was just rediculously bright...I like the subdued look on the other Fords...

Thank you. For all you Americans without daytime running lights who are confused - you don't even notice factory installed ones. You don't mistake them for headlights at night - that's why they're call 'daytime' running lights. They allow you to see oncoming traffic in bad conditions, such as rain, snow, etc.

Yes we have had Daytime running lamps in Canada form many great accident prevention tool the only complaints we have are we must remember to turn on the park and tail lamps in low light conditions to protect the rear of vehicle, as the DRL only turns on the headlamps on low beam at half brillance
and if you want the fog lamps alone we cannot because the D.R.L. automatically keeps the low beam on ( factory oversight)

Thats why in bad conditions you have HEADLIGHTS. (in Europe IE. Germany, if you don't have all your lights on in those conditions you get cited).. to me DRL's may be a good thing but if you can't see a big a55 RED SUV coming at you, then you don't need to be driving. Seems like another way to LAZY-IZE people. Just like all the Automatics in the states...another way to take the concentration of what you should be doing "DRIVING" , Sure I realize in certain situations Automatics are better, and if drag racing you can get more consistent times. I know sounds like another Knock on Auto Drivers. Nothing wrong with them, just seems like another way to make people more lazy.

Cut your wires to the fog lamps and run your own power/switch then you may turn them on when you want.

Just took our shops IDS out to my 12 Focus and turned on my DRL. Then turned them back off, then back on again.

Also looked for anything else fun I could change
