A simple fix for the microphone wind noise issue

Anyone have luck getting your cover off a SEL or Ti?
I pried the front corners loose but did not get it off for fear of breaking something.

I have a titanium with sunroof. I just opened the sun roof and stuck some foam above the mike and the bare body of the car top. After seeing how and where the mike was installed, with absolutly no sound dampening, I am very diapointed in FORD!

Very disapointed? wow...at least they made it easy enough to fix, and not totally inaccessible. Seems like a minor issue to make you VERY disapointed...I would be very disapointed if they installed a gas tank that could explode in a rear end accident...oh, wait lol!

Hey so for those with the sunglass holder built in (titanium) is it still the same process? Just remove the entire plastic thing? There are no screws or anything holding it in?

The whole assembly is clipped in, probably two "hinge" style clips ont he front and a couple of regular snap ins on the back of the assembly...I have not been daring enough to pull at it too hard, and you'll need to make sure not to pull too hard as the headliner is what its clipped into, and I got quite a bit of headliner movement when I test-pulled..

Interesting solution and thread. I have gotten mixed reviews from folks on the other end of calls..."sounds clear as a bell" .."or "sounds pretty noisy" I never made the connection of wind at higher speeds possibly being the factor but will keep that in mind going forward and look to do this smart mod if needed.

I have to say I would be pretty hesitant to replace the mic because of the SYNC voice recognition stuff. I'm sure Ford did a lot of tuning on the system using the included mic. Even if it made cell calls better, it could potentially really found up voice command recognition. No idea for sure, I just would be concerned about this aspect before replacing the mic.

Why should it even have to be fixed? Poor enginering and lack of quality concerrn is why.

Thanks to the OP for the great idea. It made a huge difference, and I no longer have to yell to be understood on the highway.

So just push the clips in on two sides and pull it down, this releasing the other sides?
