Norman, I think that's because you're active army. Wisco, I'm not sure how this works with Army Reserve, but definitely don't lie about it because your asthma will come out sooner or later afterwards. Both ways would be beneficial because you would get the GI Bill, but I guess it would depend on the severity of your asthma.

My AKO was showing my medical readiness as being red but I just assumed it was because I failed my PT test over summer. Wisconsin summers are very humid and I think that plays a big part in my asthma. Winter isn't so bad because it's dryer.

And they may have sent something to my AKO about my profile. It's possible I just missed it because for 3 years, if it didn't come from my unit, it was just AKO newsletters and stuff like that that I never read so I just deleted them. And since I didn't know it was coming.. I may have just deleted it assuming it was something unimportant.

Failing a PT test won't make you non-deployable. The Army recently switched over to an eProfile system where profiles are done digitally now. You can see what your profile is through AKO. Go to MY MEDICAL READINESS and there should be a link on the left that will allow you to download a PDF document of your profile.

I'll have to look into that. My UA told me it would have come in an email, which is why I was assuming I accidentally deleted it.

Just thought I would update everyone on the situation, since some of you may be interested.

I got papers about a month ago from the 88th Health BN up in Ft. McCoy, WI explaining to me the situation. They gave me 4 or 5 different options on how I would like to proceed. One of those options was to request an honorable discharge. Adter talking to a couple of my NCO's and fellow soldiers, I felt that at this time in my life that was the best option for me.

I was browsing through my AKO email just now and noticed I had an email that was titled Orders. Well, it's my discharge orders. Affective 01Mar12.

So it looks like I'll be getting out with an honorable, no mention of anything medical that I can see. I'm sort of having mixed feelings about it.. as I knew I would.

But I just thought I'd update those that took interest in this thread.

First thing since you have orders is to go to your county veterans rep and see what you have as far as benefits. He'll sit down and go through everything with you.
The one in my county is awesome, he found benefits I didn't know I had and also helped get everything together for the va and got me names and numbers for who I needed to talk too. It'll be under your county offices in the phone book. Do this now before your seperation date.
They offered me a med board, but they also offered me a straight honorable discharge. Which I would rather have than a medical. I don't personally feel like I'm disabled, so no point in me taking a med board, in my opinion. I would feel like I was disrespecting those who are really seriously injured from combat. Just my personal feelings.

But I will def find my veterans rep and talk to him/her. Is there any particular reason I should do it before my effective discharge date?

Also, I was only Reserves. And never deployed. Not sure if any of that matters or not.

Nah. Like I said. I don't classify myself as disabled. And if I started pulling bennies, I feel like I'd be slapping my friends in the face. Friends who have been shot, shot at, blown up, came home with severe PTSD.. no thanks.

Just personal preference.
