it came on for my girlfriend when she was out of town with my car and had it done right away cause she was worried I'd be mad (got the tires rotated too for me, what a doll) the car made it around 8.8K on the oil

I just got this message on my car, I had 10,500 miles on it. As others have said went to the manual and followed the steps. Its really a pain to do. My old chevy truck had a similar system in it but was much easier to reset.

Do we all have this monitor or just SYNC and/or MFT? I am wondering because I see a Vehicle Check, maybe System Check (can't remember the exact wording) and when I do that it says something like Fine or Okay. Is it something that will just show up when it's needed, am I looking in the wrong place, or does my base SE with no SYNC or MFT just not have it? Just curious because I think this would be a great feature to have!
On the dreaded how long between changes topic, I have honestly never know what to do! You read so many different things, anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 and also depending on driving conditions. I generally tend to get mine changed around 5,000 but if I don't need to be doing it that often, I'd love to know! I'm just such a girl when it comes to stuff like this. My dad taught me how to change oil and how to change a flat, had to demonstrate that I could do it by myself before he would let me get my license (well, those things along with driving a stick). It's now been almost 16 years since he showed me and while I have had occasion to change a flat, once I was out of the house so we didn't have those father/daughter working on the car bonding moments, I just thought it was easier to pay somebody else to do it for me. If I had to do it now, I wouldn't have a clue! The car that he taught me how to change oil on had a carburetor, a bench front seat, and the only seat belts were lap belts. It was a beautiful '68 Fairlane, man I wish we still had that car!

Well, at this point I am assuming that I do not have this feature in my SE. The only thing I see in the menu is system check, unless that will just keep saying that everything's okay until I actually need the oil change, but then what good is that? Anybody know if we have this in an SE without SYNC or MFT?

This would be so much easier if there was a way to display remaining oil life, like there is in about every other car that has a monitor. Why Ford chose this path is beyond me. |

For some of you that are wondering why your iOLM hasn't come on yet and you have the manual transmission, there is a TSB on it. I had it done on mine for an unrelated problem but this was one of the things it was supposed to address. For those that have had this TSB done for the acceleration problem, they do reset the Oil Change Monitor as part of the TSB, I know my dealer never mentioned to me that it was reset. The only way i knew it was is because i read the TSB paper myself. They are supposed to tell you the monitor was reset and to change your oil at whatever your next scheduled mileage was supposed to be, then reset it again.

oil life monitor
I have 10,600 miles on my 2012 Focus and the oil change indicator has never come on. I was worried so I changed the oil at 10K miles and I'm still waiting to see if it ever comes on.

Yes, The S does have the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor..
I just reset mine today after I changed oil.. to recap how to reset it... 1. Key in On position engine not running... 2. press both the brake pedal and gas pedal to the floor and hold until Message Center says, Oil Life Monitor Reset in progress.. Continue holding both gas and brake until message center reads Oil life monitor reset complete... release both pedals and turn key back off.. |
