I wired in my detector by popping out the overhead console and picking up a switched 12v wire there. Much simpler than running a wire down the a-pillar.

Thanks.
You don't actually put it down the a-pillar. I don't know exactly how I would explain but I will try to get a picture to show you exactly what I did. It is really simple.

Interesting - If you could get photos that would be great.

@Dgc333 - Did you pick up switched 12V from the auto dimming mirror, or from the map lights? I don't have the auto dim mirror, and presume it's harness is not there.

It's been awhile since I did it but I believe the wire I used was the power feed to the sun roof. But, anything that powers on and off with the ignition will work.

Thanks for the photos - I was thinking of doing this, but my concern was that it would mean running a wire over the curtain air-bag. I followed your idea about the head-liner and weatherstrip (works great), but decided to thread my wires behind the airbag (the canvas strip bit). Don't know if it is any better or worse, but I came to buy the Focus after the air bags in my previous car saved me - so I'm a little paranoid when it comes to 'em.

@Dgc333 - thanks - great tip, although I don't have a sunroof :) Thanks tho.

Ratskrad -- can you describe in a little more detail how easily the a-pillar covering came off, and then went back on again? I have a BlackVue camera that I'm about to hardwire to the passenger side fuse box, and I'm seriously bad when it comes to the hands-on stuff :) I am planning on running the wire across the headliner, and then underneath the airbag that's inside the a-pillar as recommended by you, but I am definitely nervous about getting that a-piller cover off and back on again.

Re: Valentine One

Hi Devvy, it just needs to be grabbed firmly at the top and pulled gently, rocking side to side. It will start to separate from the pillar and you will see/feel the clips. Don't pull the cover off - just pull the top away from the pillar about 1", enough to get a hook through to pull your wire. You can then route your wire under the air bag and down the pillar. The side trim on the inside of the door/pillar interface easily pulls back and you can retrieve your cable. Once you got the cable, you can route to the fuse box.

I hope its clear - if not I will send some photos. Good luck.

I was fooling around a bit today before the device gets here to see how this will go, and I'm a little more confident. I think I'm good, thanks for the advice :)
