I guess just because I wanted to know WHY someone preferred the permanent install hitch racks over the roof racks. I do still dislike the looks of all the stuff hanging off the back bumpers on the cars, but the nice bicycles are the least offensive, I guess.

I went with the drawtight hitch since I already had the Thule hitch rack from my suv. My girl and I love to ride our mountain bikes and I was going to go with the roof rack but thought it was just asking for dents and dings in the roof after returning from the trails all muddy and tired.

Went to the local vinyl shop and had them made in dark grey. They are actually more subtle than with the camera flash.

Receive my hitch today via Fedex. However, I'm going to wait until the spring to install. I won't be bike riding until then.

Almost ordered/had installed a Curt hitch thru a local shop but glad I stumbled across this thread... ordered a Hidden Hitch through eTrailer.com instead -- definitely a "do-it-yourself" project, and I like the no-drilling...

So the only difference between the curt and the hidden hitch is ease of install? There are no differences in strength? I plan on hauling a small trail around. maybe a 4x6 or a 4x8 would be nice. My loads would only be a max of about 500lbs. So the total would be that and the weight of the trailer. I should be fine with either hitch right?

Both are equal. The limit is on the vehicle it is bolted to. Strength of the frame and such. you'll be fine as long as you don't exceed those limits.
