On Ford's website, they say the Focus STR will be available in January 2012. How could the base Focus ST be so much more difficult to produce that they can't get it out until 7 months (or more) later?

Probably has to do with manufacturing quantities. The STR will probably be about 500 (maybe less) total that could be made in Germany (or Somewhere) alongside other STR's for other countries and shipped over. The ST they probably want to make (hopefully more than) a couple thousand and not have to ship them far.

I say they release it this way and let the hardware bugs go to the Rs that no one can afford to buy.

Where's all the press for LA Auto Show on Focus ST? Still waiting. I was hoping to see price, a general MPG idea, 0-60 times, but it seems that will not happen. Those things can be assumed, but I thought it would be confirmed here. This was the best I could find.

BLUE COLOR!!!!

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...auto-show.html

Note that the blue seems like a base model. No HIDs, and looks like base seats (no Recaro). Which could be both good or bad. There is a cheaper model, maybe closer to $25k? By the time I add these in, it may cost nearly $30k.

I find it weird that they would offer the Cosworth Blue on base STs when it seems more logical to reserve that for the higher end STs.

As far as options go, I'm sure that Ford will option them out like they did with the CWP and HIDs on the SVTs.

I do get the ST-R coming in Jan '12= race car's operate in close proximity of toolbox's

I don't get how Ford is getting people all hyped up 'bout a phantom ST, WTF Ford. I do get the ST-R coming Jan. '12= race car's operate in close proximity of toolbox's. There is alway's the stand by WRX or STI or EVO or the new Golf R. Or for people w/ SVT's or any Foci for that matter, there are alway's Mod's to be done= built motor w/ a turbo hanging on the side & suspension & brake mod's!

I didn't even see that. 6.5 isn't too impressive though, is it? Not bad, but I was hoping for lower 6's.

My Take

I saw the car(s) today at the L.A Auto Show.

I really like the Focus ST, its what I have been waiting for Ford to do for some time.

The GTI is a competitor price wise, not performance-wise. The GTI-R is a rip at $36K, that's STi/Evo territory and likely slower than those cars again. Figuring Germany engineering wins. Not in the stop-light grand prix it don't...

If things happen the way I want in 2012 on the social front, I will be in the market for the ST in late 2012 or early 2013.

I think the car will start around $25K, maybe less. Mazdaspeed3 starts at $23K. If you add in Recaros (which are likely aren't standard), MFT and Sunroof, it will hit 27K I'm sure. Recaros is never a cheap option, I had some in my Izusu I-Mark RS sedan where it was a option and rare one too. I had 1 of less than 250 white sedans with that package.

I would think they would be fairly rare as well as getting into the high 20's is territory where other choices live.

For me this is the perfect family compromise and my #1 choice.

You forgot VW's are hefty too.

Some cellphone snaps -

Cars have gotten heavier and more feature laden. 6.5 isn't bad, magazines will be able to repeat that.

With today's weight in cars, you'll need closer to 300hp to get SRT-4 performance from a compact car.

I'm positive upgrades from Ford Racing would push this into the low 5's and 13 second zone respectively.
