I've served in both the reserves and national guard including a deployment to Iraq. The National Guard and Reserves are more different than people think. The reserves are more geared toward support and technical MOS's (there is only one infantry unit in the reserves and its in hawaii). The National Guard on the other hand has combat MOS units as well as support (depending on your state of course). I'm not sure what you're looking to get out of it, but I'd have to ask you where do you want to be in say 5-6 years? What do you want to do for a career? Use that information to select what MOS you want then make sure you look into using your education benefits to put yourself through college or a technical school. Some of the guys I knew who joined and just kept living life like they did before they joined, and in my opinion weren't a whole lot better off than before they joined.
